Re: Karolina Sprem Cheering Thread! vol2

I hope this idea comes through, would love to see them playing mixed doubles!
Obviously Karolina is missing tennis, fighting and excitment of matches but she doesn't miss trainings.
Good luck to them!

Re: Karolina Sprem Cheering Thread! vol2

Well that would be interesting but unlikely

Daniilidou. Venus. Azarenka. Halep. Wickmayer.
Cornet. Ivanovic. Vesnina.. Vaidisova. Krajicek.
Paszek. Begu. Cirstea. Lisicki. Pavlyuchenkova.
Pironkova. Stephens. Tatishvili. McHale. Flipkens.
Grammatikopoulou ~ Papamichail ~ Sakkari
I'm obsessed with the Greek players. Deal with it.

Very nice article about Karolina on the WTA site: http://www.wtatennis.com/page/OffCou...923111,00.html

She's leaving the door (slightly) open for a comeback

Re: Karolina Sprem Cheering Thread! vol2

Thanks for the article! I miss her a lot

I saw quite a bit of her a couple of years back at the Australian Open 2010. I saw her practicing a few hours before her first round match against Medina Garrigues. I watched her for about 15 minutes and the whole time she only hit drive volleys. There was hardly anyone watching, but a professional photographer came up and starting taking pictures of her, then asked me who she was...I told him it was Karolina Sprem, who reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon in 2004 and beat Venus Williams. He was like "Oh yeah...I remember " After seeing her practice I had a good feeling about her match, and I was right, as I saw her thrash Medina Garrigues (who I think was the #16 seed) 6-3 6-2. She just completely blew her off the court. Marisa Jose Martinez Sanchez came to watch, but didn't have much to cheer about. After the match she was visibly so happy! It was her first Grand Slam win since Wimbledon 2006. She signed a lot of autographs and stuff. Her coach was extremely happy too (not sure who it was then?). Then two days later I saw her practicing again a few hours before her match, of course this was before her night match against Dellacqua on Rod Laver Arena. This time, I saw her for I'm guessing around 25 minutes...the whole time all she hit was returns. Her coach served to her and she whacked the returns back. I know this was only practice, but wow, she was smacking them back so hard and crisply into the corners. They would be winners against anyone. And she got every single one in. Once again, I had a great feeling about her match...I was so sure she would thrash Dellacqua like 6-2 6-1 by playing like she did against Medina Garrigues. I went home to watch the match and was so confident...and then she just played terribly Nothing like I'd seen in her first round or in practice Such a disappointment I guess you guys saw the match too, but it was awful...and against Dellacqua of all people.

Anyway, I'll always remember her for those memories. It's too bad she seems to be finished as a tennis player, but she really seems to have moved on to a wonderful life. She looked stunning in that photo in the WTA article

And we'll never be royals (royals). It don't run in our blood, That kind of luxe just ain't for us. We crave a different kind of buzz.

The two times I saw her live she played fantastic, so I was really lucky. Plus I got a picture with her which she also signed.

Miss her.

I was also really lucky that whenever I watched her live she played extremly good.
And you know it's such an attractive style of play that you can't help but feel "wow" watching it!
I also miss her.

Re: Karolina Sprem Cheering Thread! vol2

She really missed a couple of chances in 2010.. AOpen lost to Casey, close match vs. kirilenko in Paris.
Also in Rome she outplayed Wickmayer(lost 63 16 64) who was at ther best at the time.
Than last 16 in Eastbourne again lost close match 26 75 76 against Petrova. Week before that lost 7-6 in third to Lucic.
Wimbledon was good, also another close match against Safarova in Bastad.
But she also lost to capra 61 63
Looking at some wins at the end of the year(Pervak 61 62, Paszek, Safarova, Halep) it seems like she started to play better again. Just go injured in wrong moment,
