Remondina is ranked about the same as Olaru (...) i.e. ranked close to Ani at the moment, but she's been very lucky with the draws lately. In her last two events, WTA Budapest and Cuneo 100k, she made it to QR3 in each, but she didn't have to beat even a single top300 player to do it. Her best ever ranking is very similar to Ani's and they're also the same age, but they've never played eachother.
Go get her Ani
P. S. In case of a win we have a Croatian clash, Mijacika vs. (2) Tomljanovic, which is not really that good of a news given the level of event and the stage of competition...
Ani reaches FQR with a 6:2, 6:7, 6:2 win over Tomljanovic
For a place in the final she'll have to beat C. Giovine, a girl one year younger, currently at #385, who was at #257 a little under a year ago. Certainly looks winnable for Ani, a great chance to qualify for a WTA level event for the first time ever!
Well it sure must feel great to finally qualify for a WTA, hope she enjoys it. There's really no easy draw for Ani in a tournament like this, but I guess she got away with a pretty good placement. Still, Eleni will of course be a big favorite, considering her career achievements and all. She just won a 50k two weeks ago, but that was on hard. Clay is not Eleni's best surface from what I know, and her results this year on clay are not really impressive (mostly qualifying matches of small WTA's). Ani's small advantage will be in the fact that she's a qualifier so she already has matches under her belt, and maybe even the fact that she won their only previous meeting. Although at the time of that encounter, Eleni was ranked much lower (almost outside of top200), her form was nowhere, and she was regularly losing to challenger-level players. This will probably be a whole other story, but it'll still be very interesting to see what happens.
