Darija Jurak is a 24 y.o. Croatian tennis player, winner of 8 ITF singles titles and 27 ITF doubles titles, one of which she won this year. Her favorite surface is clay and current year win/loss singles record is 15-10. Her career high ranking is 188 for singles and 108 for doubles, while her current singles ranking is 413, which is the highest she's been in almost 18 months. She reached two QF's on 25k this year.

This week she's playing in Bad Saulgau 25k, where she qualified for MD (just like last year) and drew 2nd seed and world's number 208 Tereza Hladikova (CZE) as her first opponent. Since she's defending QF from last year, a loss here could push her down some 30 places in the rankings, but let's hope for the best. She applied for doubles also, not defending anything, she and her partner play against top seeds in the first round. She's playing in Germany next week as well, on another 25k where she lost in R1 last year after going through qualies, but is defending finals of doubles.

Good luck Darija:wavey:

Didn't rise quite as high as I expected in rankings, #401 in singles and #256 in doubles as of this week. She needs 4 points to overtake Lisjak at 390 in singles, and 18 points to overtake Pandzic at 226 in doubles. I think both will happen by the end of the year.

Darija is in France where she'll play a couple of tournaments in the weeks to come.

First off, qualies of Poitiers 100k, where in the 1st round she's drawn to play a local girl Benamar (currently #605, never higher than 582). Unfortunatelly, if she wins that, she'll play 3rd seed of qualies Margit Ruutel in the next:rolleyes:

Still don't know if she'll play doubles here.

Darija is playing qualies of Nantes 50k. In the 1st round she beat Piquion (ranked 473), but in the second she'll face top seed Chakhnashvili (world's #222 and former #134) Good thing is, Darija leads h2h by 1:0. Bad thing is, that match happened 5 years ago on clay:lol:

Good luck:wavey:

She didn't make it to MD in singles, but had a nice start in MD of doubles, where she's playing with Zec-Peskiric. But after a straight sets win in the first round they're facing top seeds Jugic-Salkic/Voracova in the quarters. Hope they can make a surprise.

Jurak/Zec-Peskiric def. Jugic-Salkic/Voracova 6:7 6:0 10:2:woohoo:

This will push Darija some 30 places up the doubles rankings (to around 230) and she'll be Croatian #2 in doubles, overtaking Jelena Pandzic! No points to defend here, so it could get even better!

Good luck:bounce:

After a straight sets win, Darija is in her 5th doubles final of the season, but first on anything larger than 25k. Hope she takes her second title of the year. She and Zec-Peskiric will play 3rd seeds Dzehalevich and Fedak in the finals.

Good luck:wavey:

P. S. A title here would get her on the brink of top200!

No title this time unfortunatelly, but still a solid tournament overall.

Darija is already in quali draw for Ismaning 50k, plays a wildcarder Zaja in the first round. But she'll probably play a much more solid oposition in the form of 6th seed Frankova, as early as next round. Her energy levels are probably not great at the moment also, after 10 matches in two weeks. No points to defend here in singles, but there is 12 in doubles (semis of last year's 25k).

After a walkover against Majeric and a very convincing 6:2 6:1 win against 3rd seed and compatriot Vrljic (Darija's 4th consecutive win against her; Vrljic won only 1 set in 4 matches), Darija joined Beygelzimer, Hlavackova and Klaschka in the main draw! With 4 points won so far she'll move to around 375, and even higher if she beats Soler-Espinosa, her R1 opponent. A tough job it is (Spaniard won their only previous match, 2 years ago), but Darija is in a really good form, so who knows...

Ajmo Darija:bounce:

She joined forces with Ivanova in doubles where they're 3rd seeds.

Today's opponent is Lyubtsova, a tough task, but considering how Darija's been playing this week, I think anything's possible. Lyubtsova is a regular top200 player, with a career-high rank of 149, one 25k title won this year, and only 2 losses to players ranked outside of top200.

Fingers crossed!

Holy cow, she's scarry:lol:

I don't know where's she coming up with this game, but...:worship:

This will push her as high up as ~320!

Next opponent, top seed Barrois. I won't expect anything, considering not only opposition, but also the number of matches played these last few weeks. Barrois won both of their previous matches, both played on hardcourts, one of them earlier this year. Darija never took a set.

Good luck:wavey:

While I don't expect Daria to win, this has already been an excellent tournament for her.

It has also been a good year for her. She finished 2007 at #505. She's only defending one more point the rest of this year, so she'll finish 2008 at ~#320 at least.

That's a big jump and it hopefully will give her confidence to get back into the top 200. Next year she doesn't start to defend major points until *August* so that gives her a lot of time to move up in the rankings. Hope she can take advantage of it.

She lost 7:6 6:3, but I'm really impressed by this whole tournament and a fight she showed against a top100 opposition. It's been two and a half years since she played any kind of semifinals besides those on 10k's, and this was also the first 50k ever where she went beyond 2nd round.

Well done!

i saw the match yesterday. darija had several setpoints at 5-3 and 6-5 and she led 6-0 in the tiebreak....

Darija is starting her 2009 in Californian Laguna Nigel (25k), where she's 6th seed of qualifying. Plays Vietnamese Nguyen (#669) in QR1. Another good news is that she's defending just one solid result in the first 5 months of the year, QF of 25k from qualies around the middle of February, so there's a great chance for a rise in the rankings until June.

Good luck Darija:wavey:
