Darija Jurak CRO / Katalin Marosi HUN v Renata Voracova CZE / Klara Zakopalova CZE
Not bad. Not only did they manage to avoid a seeded team but also Voracova / Zakopalova were probably the last direct entry (I say that because their combined ranking is just slightly better and Jurak / Marosi were #1 seed in qualies).
Made it through, but it was way too close for comfort (10-8 in the decider). With this she has defended last year's points in Palermo, and now she doesn't have anything to defend until mid September (two consecutive 100k titles, 140 and 150 points respectively).
Great job Really hope they take advantage of the situation this week, cause Darija has quite a few points left to defend this season (410 taking into account those won in Palermo thus far). Too bad that she made wins in just 1 slam this year, out of 3 that she played, cause just one extra slam win would mean over 150 more points. This next match is worth additional 70, so quite a lot to play for.
Jurak/Marosi will face the only unseeded team that made it to the semis, Dzehalevich/Kalashnikova, who took out the 4th seeds Bovina/Cornet in the quarters (straight sets). The other semi will be played between 1st and 3rd seeds (expectedly), Voracova/Z. Strycova vs. Dushevina/Gallovits-Hall.
Darija is into the finals of Palermo after 12-10 in the third, congrats
Btw, I played with Darija's points today a little bit and found out interesting things. For example, of her best 11 results from last year, she made 6 of them until Palermo and earned a total of some 540 points in them. Up until Palermo this year, her 6 best results account for something like 650 points.
Also, when counting all of her points won up until the end of Palermo 2011, she earned a total of 685. This year, even if she loses in the final, she'll earn a total of 1273 up until the same point in the season. Great stuff indeed!
BZS just entered the third set of her singles semifinal, so she could be quite tired for the doubles final. But whatever happens, it's been a great week for Darija. She and Katalin (hope the spelling is correct) are, in fact, the 33rd best team of 2012, according to WTA's race rankings. If these ranks would've been used for the Olympics they'd easily get in...but they'd still have to play for the same country Anyway, the way things are developing for Darija, looks like top 50 by the end of the season is not impossible at all.
