Couldn't do any more, 2:6 in the third. Kudos for effort and good luck next week in Istanbul

Doubles QF:

Konta/Watson def. [3]Barrois/Vrljic 3:6, 7:6(5), 11:9

Ouch.

Re: Ana Vrljic cheering thread

Istanbul 50k, singles R1:

Camerin vs Vrljic
Ivakhenko vs [2]Cepelova

A totally winnable R1, not so sure about R2. No doubles this time. Good luck Ana!

Re: Ana Vrljic cheering thread

Good job so far by Ana in Istanbul, but the next one will be a real mountain to climb as Cepelova won her 1st round match 6:1, 6:1.

Good luck Ana!

Re: Ana Vrljic cheering thread

Into the quarters!!!

Vrljic def. [2]Cepelova 2:6, 7:6, 7:6

It was a battle to say the least, with 10 breaks of serve and Cepelova not only won more of those, but also more points in total, but a win is a win

This is already a very good week for Ana, no matter what happens next.

Re: Ana Vrljic cheering thread

Probably one of the weirdest results I've ever seen (Istanbul 50k QF):

Vrljic lt. Birnerova 6:0, 6:7, 0:6

Too bad she couldn't make it. Still, not a bad showing at all this week.

Re: Ana Vrljic cheering thread

Ana's 2014 season will start in Hong Kong where she'll take part in a 25k as one of the seeded players, starting Dec. 30th. Afterwards she'll head off to Melbourne. Hope her year starts as well as this one ended

But she ended the 2012 WTA year-end at 232 and is now at only 220--and she will soon be 30 years old

That said, 2013 was a success in terms of a singles CH ranking (180) and $25K title and also a doubles CH ranking (150).

I know, but for some reason I have a feeling she is a solid worker and someone who is trying her best to make do with what talent she has. That's why I follow her results. And 2013 has been quite a nice year for her. Her w-l record was 36-24, she won a 25k, reached a final from qualies on another, a semi and a quarter at a 50k, appeared on 3 majors, made a top 100 win...altogether a very decent effort. In doubles there were three titles (2x25k, 1x50k), and a final on a 100k.

I hope she sticks around Downunder after Melbourne to take part in those 50k's - sounds like a good chance for in-form players to pick up valuable points.

Re: Ana Vrljic cheering thread

Less than 2 weeks before the quali draw is made Ana is 9th outside the quali draw for Melbourne. Hope she has a back-up plan in case she doesn't make it in (my money would be on Aussie ITF events).

Re: Ana Vrljic cheering thread

Ana in Hong Kong for a $25K. She's seeded #6 (#1 in doubles).

In R1 she plays Namigata (263 but CH 105). Good luck, Ana!

Re: Ana Vrljic cheering thread

She is only 7th alternate for Melbourne, so that doesn't look too good with the tournament approaching...

But first tings first, good luck in Hong Kong
