Wow, that's a scoreline no one expected I hope it's not because of some injury or anything like that. Not happy for Jasmina, but it's nice to see Ana advance so convincingly. I agree, R2 should not be a problem.
More good news from Slovenia; a very clean win in doubles (6:1, 6:1) for a final clash against the third seeds Castiblanco/Perez), but what's even more important is a bit less clean but still valuable win over a Serbian qualifier M. Spremo, 5:7, 6:2, 6:4 for a place in the quarters and a match-up with unseeded Evtimova.
Given Ana's recent performances I can't say I'm too optimistic, but who knows. Sema is currently at a c-h #158, but considering other possible draws in these qualies, this is actually not a bad placement at all.
Hope Ana can do some damage here and get away with 40 valuable points. That would be especially important because at the start of next month she'll be defending QF of Bastad from qualies (86 points!), so by getting as much as possible here, she could make life a bit easier for herself in the weeks to come.
Bad Gastein QR1 draw: (4) Ana Vrljic vs. Gail Brodsky
Ana is not in some good form, but Brodsky wasn't making headlines lately either (just 1 win in the last 6 matches, and that one came against an unranked player), plua the surface will probably more favor Ana.
Just after that in 25k Les Contamines-Montjoie she played QF and then in 50k Olomuc she had bad lost in R2 against pretty good player - Voegele 1-6 7-6 6-4. Then 4 losses in R1 - 25k of Istanbul, Sarajevo and Podgorica came against players she should have beat. One more lost in Zagreb 50k and after that she finally starts to show some improvements in her form. In two 25k tournaments one R2 and one R1 but after that in WTA Linz, qualifying draw she beat top 200 player Knapp 2-6 6-1 6-4 but just to lost 6-1 6-1 to Diatchenko in next round. In Glasgow 25k R2 she put great fight to Domachowska who is playing very well lately, lost 4-6 6-2 6-4. And finally she managed for 3 back to back wins in Istanbul 25k. After bye and one win in qualifying she beat two players in MD. In R2 she showed great fight against Vasylyeva with win 2-6 7-6(7) 6-2! For this week she was 3rd on qualifying list of Opole 25k but she is not into qualifying draw so I assume she made it to the MD. Good luck.
And Jurikova is ranked higher more than 130 places than Ana + she beat her in their two previous meetings so two really good wins for Ana this week. Her next opponent is Kristina Kucova, 5th seed. Lately, she is not in best form of her life (career high 103th place and now 205th) but still, she has decent results of challengers and is ranked higher for about 170 places than Ana. Anyway, good luck.
