Re: Tereza Mrdeza cheering thread

Chiasso, singles R16:

T. Mrdeza def. (Q)Y. Neuwirth [wta 412] 6:1, 6:2

In the quarterfinal Tereza will face the winner of [3]Vogt vs. (Q)Mikulcic which is currently in progress.

Already a nice result for Tereza, anything beyond this would be a nice bonus

Re: Tereza Mrdeza cheering thread

It'll be Vogt, against who (to my surprise) Tereza has a very nice h2h of 2:0.

Both of their meetings happened in 2012, both on clay and both in the quarterfinals of respective tournaments. The first one is from Brescia where Tereza won in straight sets, and the other took place in Chiasso of all places, where Vogt took her only set so far against Tereza, in a tie-break of the second, but still couldn't pull out a win.

Of course, I don't expect anything similar tomorrow as Tereza isn't exactly in some great form (yet), not to mention that she hasn't been playing all that much recently, but this info can at least take some of the pressure off of her, coming into this match.

Good luck T!

Re: Tereza Mrdeza cheering thread

SEMIIIIIIIIIIISSSSSS!!!!!

T. Mrdeza def. [3]S. Vogt 6:1, 5:7, 7:5

It was I believe well over two hours, Tereza had to break 8 times and win over 120 points to celebrate the victory. A really great result upon comeback! This'll already bring her a push of some 20 spots up the rankings no matter what happens next.

Re: Tereza Mrdeza cheering thread

Chiasso, $25000, singles semifinals:

A. Sadikovic vs. T. Mrdeza
[4]A. Rus vs. [2]L. Hradecka

Sadikovic took out the top seeded Jaksic (who is probably vulturing these sorts of tournaments in order to gain a top 100 spot soon) 6:2, 4:6, 6:3. This'll be Tereza's 4th time to play Sadikovic and she leads h2h 2:1. Sadikovic's only win came in this very tournament in the final two years ago, while Tereza won their match in some futures event in '09 (clay) as well as the one in the qualies of Moscow WTA last year. All of their matches ended in straight sets.

It's also worth mentioning that a win tomorrow would ensure Tereza direct placement in the main draw of next week's 25k in Wiesbaden, which would normally be a good thing, but this year's edition of Wiesbaden is packed with really good players so it's not really something to be happy about. Oh well, I guess every point counts and an additional win or two can't hurt.

Good luck tomorrow Tereza!

Re: Tereza Mrdeza cheering thread

Wow, congrats Tereza on a wonderful week!

For the title she'll have a mighty tough job, Lucie Hradecka who disposed of Rus in straights today. The last, and the only, time Tereza faced Hradecka was at this year's Australian Open and the Czech won 8:6 in the third, so who knows, maybe we're in for an upset tomorrow. Clay is Tereza's best surface after all, so I'm hopeful.

That's 30 points for the week now, enough for roughly #280. Nice to see you (however slowly) getting back to where you belong Tereza. Good luck tomorrow!

P. S. If anyone finds out some info about possible streaming for the final, be sure to post here...

Re: Tereza Mrdeza cheering thread

Tereza really needed this result

Best of luck tomorrow but regardless of what happens, it has already been a successful week for her: beat a seeded player (Vogt), another player ranked (slightly) higher than her (Sadikovic) and a very promising junior (Sorribes Tormo).

Well, the special exempt is actually excellent news. She has gotten plenty of match play this week, so it's better that she go straight into the MD. She could have always lost in qualies; besides, she might get a good R1 placement.

Well I guess you're right, she could always draw a qualifier or a wild-card of some sort...we'll see. Hopefully there'll be enough left in the tank after this week for at least one more win.

Also, Tereza is definately not playing the French this year of course, but she still might get a place in Wimbledon qualies. Cut-off for the qualies will be made using rankings of May 26th, which means that she can play anything she wants until the week of 19th, but on that week she can only benefit from WTA events (assuming she enters qualies of Nürnberg or Brussels) as there are no ITF's above 25k level. But it'll be tough, as even by counting in points won so far this week, she needs roughly 80-85 more points in the next month. After Wiesbaden 25k (MD) she is listed for Tunis (25k MD), but she is on no ITF lists for the week of May 12th and somehow I doubt she'll get a WC for Rome (), so maybe she's not that hung up on Wimbledon after all - she did lose in QR1 the only time she played there...

Anyway, keeping my fingers crossed for today and hoping we at least find out for what time is the match scheduled as ITF offers no info

Re: Tereza Mrdeza cheering thread

Hradecka def. Mrdeza 63 76(4)

Expected, Hradecka always beats cro players.
Great week anyway for Tereza!

Re: Tereza Mrdeza cheering thread

Hradecka won 3:6, (4)6:7

Tereza had a really lousy BP conversion rate (under 20%, I think), but this was still a nice week all things considered.

Re: Tereza Mrdeza cheering thread

Why didn't Tereza take the SE into Wiesbaden? Seems like a big missed opportunity.
