And it just might get even better if she has anything left in the tank, cause Arn is on a downward spiral and not exactly impressive lately. But whatever happens this is already a great achievement for her.
It could be an exciting late spring in Paris for her if she continues like this. Her new doubles ranking should be high enough for a MD spot there (Melbourne has seen players ranked quite a bit lower than 150 in doubles). For qualifying singles she'd have to add some 50 more points, assuming she loses to Arn here, by mid April. With this kind of form it might just be doable.
Maria put up quite a fight against world #68 Arn in the first set. She lost it 64 but it was even closer than the score indicates; she won just three fewer points (28-25).
I can't see Maria coming back to win this match but regardless of what happens, she should be very proud of her performance this week, in both singles and doubles. Hopefully it will give her an ego boost and inspire her to further wins at the WTA level.
She's defending few singles or doubles points until June/July. In singles she has a realistic shot at the top 250, and top 125 in doubles. Let's see if she can do it.
Wow, guys I just noticed one thing (that you might noticed before me), and it is that Marija is just 24 years old! I thought she is much older. She has a lot of years in tennis if she wants it! If she continues like this I think she might get to top 100 one day. After all, right now she is playing R2 of WTA event!
Kudos for her effort this week, who would've expected something like this Yes, she is still quite young (she is the younger one of the Abramovic sisters) so who knows what future might bring for her. She certainly seems to be on the right path.
