Anyway, nice match Ajla, altogether really nice I'd say. Was expecting it it be quite a bit closer and possibly even with a totally different outcome. Glad my fears were proven to lack basis.

After this, I really expect a win in the next round though, Iveta hasn't been playing in ages (quite literally). Good luck girl!

Re: Ajla Tomljanovic thread!

Also, qual could be really potentially dangerous but even though it is not easy, it is best possible - Duval. Melzer wasn't playing in years and it is quite doable about her form. Luckily, this qualy place wasn't for example Keys who was late entry and played qualies.

Ana Konjuh | Donna Vekic | Mirjana Lucic-Baroni | Ana Ivanovic | Nicole Vaidisova

Re: Ajla Tomljanovic thread!

It's Tomljanovic vs. Duval and it's first on C1 today, 16:00 local, 23:00 CET. I don't see any live streams from this event.

Duval normally shouldn't be a problem for Ajla and she should impose herself as the favorite right from the start, to eliminate any chance of a surprise. The American is at times capable of those (like, who isn't...) as she showed for instance this year in Sydney, by beating Lucic and Lepchenko, both in straights. This'll be her first meeting with Ajla.

Hopefully everything goes well today. It's a nice chance for a WTA QF - don't blow it Ajla. Good luck!

P. S. Ajla is playing her first round doubles match today as well, second match on court 4.

Re: Ajla Tomljanovic thread!

I'm getting nervous. For whatever reason I foresee a frustrating 5-7 third set loss
then again, I wasn't expecting Ajla to win her first round match and she did awesome

ugh, why do they all suck????????

I am always afraid of that in every match she plays.
If she gets to thepoint of serving for match I hope she will again have bigger lead so she can't choke completely.

Good luck!

Re: Ajla Tomljanovic thread!

Yes, with psychologically weaker players (i.e. 99,99% of the WTA) it's best if they start each set strong and build up a lead. Otherwise...

Still, for some reason I'm totally fine ahead of this match, somehow I'm confident Ajla will do what she is supposed to.

Re: Ajla Tomljanovic thread!

With this form, she might get her first WTA SF ever (now she repeated her best result - QF of Queebec City). She obviously feels well in Mexico, she won her only Grade A in singles there!

Ana Konjuh | Donna Vekic | Mirjana Lucic-Baroni | Ana Ivanovic | Nicole Vaidisova

Re: Ajla Tomljanovic thread!

So happy

I guess that she will play againt Zhang in QF. I watched few Shuai's matches last year and I was really impressed with her level of tennis. I think that it will be a close match, they bought have strong groundstrokes and decent game.

GL Ajla, this is already nice result, but you can go all the way

Re: Ajla Tomljanovic thread!

Really great to see Ajla finding such a nice form at the right time. I believe these are the events for which she has to bring her A game, cause if she can do that, she is certain of valuable points. While it's nice to see when she makes a run on a big one, in such events you can never know what to expect in terms of the draw, and you can get someone like Venus in R1. In tournaments like Acapulco she really just needs to be on a good level and the points are guaranteed. Of course, easier said than done.

Zhang might be tricky, but Ajla won two of their three h2h's. The one Zhang won was actually Ajla's retirement (Port St. Lucie QF), while Ajla won in three in the final of Dothan last year (GC) and three years ago in the QF of Grapevine in straights (HC). So I believe she can get past this. It'll probably be a test, but I feel she can make it. Match against Cibi would be sort of a nice reward for all the good work done this week.

Nice to see her going through in doubles as well. Keep up the good work Ajla
