Re: Ajla Tomljanovic thread!

Ajla has to learn that against top players it's not enough just to hit every ball as hard as you can

Re: Ajla Tomljanovic thread!

Watched only last game, 39 UE is pretty big number

Great tournament for Ajla, juicy 160 points, TOP 100 and AO MD.

Very happy because her form before US Open was terrible.

Keep improving gurl

P.S. I hope that someone will upload highlights or whole match on youtube

Re: Ajla Tomljanovic thread!

Very bad match from Ajla, but great tournament nonetheless. I didn't expect her to qualify and win a match, considering her form the last couple of months

Re: Ajla Tomljanovic thread!

Considering her form coming into this event, I'm sure we can only be happy about how this one ended. Sure, it wasn't the best performance ever by Ajla, but you can't really blame her this time around, cause she's just not yet on a level required to beat the Cornets of the world. And with her ranking and experience that's more than fair enough. The difference in consistency was expectedly obvious, and I'm sure Ajla will get better with time, as long as the mono subsides. For a player who, prior to this year, was almost never inside top 150 and who barely played any tennis last year, I think the progress she's making this season is wonderful. This was definately a step in the right direction IMO.

Re: Ajla Tomljanovic thread!

Ajla has to improve her fitness drastically, her movement appears very stuperous and slow. I'm kind of skeptic whether she does enough in that departement. Furthermore she has no FH to speak of, very fragile when she has to counter pacey strokes. Her serve when it lands in, is just fine, she just needs to increase that first serve percentage. Her BH looks really impressive, I'd almost call it a weapon. She can hit with decent spin going for some nice angles, but also smack it for a winner.

Altogether I definately think she has what it takes to beat the Cornet's of this world, but she really has to improve her fitness, she's way too slow for a pro.(Maybe change her nutrition plan, lose a pound or two and intensify her endurance training).
As I previously said, I'm not sure whether she's taking her training as serious as she should for a soon to be Top100 player.

In her defence, she really seemed to be sick during her match with Cornet, as she had to take an MTO after the first set.

Re: Ajla Tomljanovic thread!

She said she's not working a lot on her fitness due to mono. Will see how will she look like in future.

Re: Ajla Tomljanovic thread!

i have to say, she played much better in round 3 of qualifying than she did against cornet. especially in terms of movement and her forehand. the cornet match reminded me more of the first set and a half of her match against ishizu. she can definitely play better than she did yesterday.

ugh, why do they all suck????????

Re: Ajla Tomljanovic thread!

All-in-all, she did really well here and she qualified for back-to-back Grand Slams. She's on the verge of the top 100 and being directly accepted into the majors.

Re: Ajla Tomljanovic thread!

Well at least the first round shouldn't be a problem. Not so sure about the rest of the week. Hope I'm wrong - GL!

Re: Ajla Tomljanovic thread!

It would be so good to see Ajla - Beth clash in second round, love them both

Sanchez can be tricky, but it's all on Ajla
