She seems to be talented, had lost in Zagreb to Hladikova who played a great match, attacking on every opportunity and not missing at all.
Ajla didn't play at all, she just couldn't relax at all.
Here's video of her groundstrokes from that match: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5cckl_ajla-tomljanovic-in-zagreb-challeng_sport
On a side note, the last time a Croatian female player passed the 2nd round in Melbourne was in 2006 (Kostanic) and in 15 tournaments coming into this one we had just 4 appearances past the 2nd round (2000 Kostanic, 2001 Majoli, 2005 Sprem and 2006 Kostanic), with Sprem reaching the best result in '05 - 4th round.
Here's for english fans:
Ajla said it's hard to look at things realisticly just after the match. I started really solid in first set, I was sticking to tactics which I made with my coach. I think it was obvious in 2nd set that emotions got better of me. I made few errors and couldn't handle it well. I was pretty negative and surely a break at 0-3 in third helped me. When I came to the locker room I thought coach would say that everything's bad, but he was very positive and maybe believed more than I did, that I could win. It's not that I didn't believe that I could win, but I didn't think I would get to 5-3 either.
Crowd helped me as well since they probably wanted to see more tennis, also night atmosphere is something I like.
From 0-3 to 5-3 I think I played even better than in first set. But against top players you have to play until the end. And at 5-3 I started to doubt a bit, not much- maybe 5%.. Against some girls that wouldn't happen (really?).. I'm sad but I guess certain things I have to learn the hard way. My coach is satisfied.. I'm sad, but I have to move on. I'm still in mix and doubles draw. Then I'll go to Pattaya and back to Florida to practice, Then I should play Acapulco next, maybe even some tournament before but that's not certain yet.
"No protiv ovakvih igračica, tenisačica iz top kategorije, moraš do kraja ostati čvrst, do kraja se držati plana, no kod 5:3 došla je neka sumnja, mala, mala sumnja u sebe, možda pet posto sumnje, nije puno, ali… Žao mi je, neke stvari očito moram na teži način naučiti"
This describes whole her career so far
But I like her positive attitude
So Pattaya, Acapulco, Indian Wells and Miami are next tournaments. Maybe even Florianopolis.
