Re: Ajla Tomljanovic thread!

I kind of expected something like this - great news! She'll probably get quite a few wc's for Croatian tourneys.

Re: Ajla Tomljanovic thread!

This week, Ajla moved up to a career-high #4 in the world junior rankings (http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/). She's behind Laura ROBSON, Noppawan LERTCHEEWAKARN and Ana BOGDAN.

Also, Silvia Njiric moved up to a career-high ranking of #10. That means that Croatia is one of only two countries (Romania is the other) with more than one player in the top 10!

Re: Ajla Tomljanovic thread!

Njiric really impressed me in Brazil. She routined Mladenovic and she really showed off a nice combination of power and speed. Her backhand is beautiful.

Ajla should be in action next week at a U.S. challenger while Silvia should be at a 10K in Croatia

ugh, why do they all suck????????

Re: Ajla Tomljanovic thread!

Anyone knows are there any limitations as to how many pro events can Ajla play due to her age? Also, how high does she have to get in the rankings, in order to get a junior exempt status - I think it's top500, but am not sure?

Re: Ajla Tomljanovic thread!

Ajla won her 2nd round match:

r1: bye
r2: def Paliivets (CAN) 6-1 6-4
Lucic next, unfortunately. I think she has a shot given her current form.

Jankovic & Azarenka
Victoria Azarenka 2012 Australian Open Champion!

Re: Ajla Tomljanovic thread!

Cool I didn't even notice she could face Lucic - that'll be interesting! Ajla definately has a shot.

P. S. Her new career-high is 624!

Re: Ajla Tomljanovic thread!

Both Ajla and her sister Hana are in the qualies of this week's Osprey 25k. Ajla is facing an unranked player in QR1, while Hana (unranked herself) will play 16th seed of qualies.

Good luck girls

Re: Ajla Tomljanovic thread!

Ajla won but it was much, much tougher than expected. She beat Jan ABAZA, unranked, who just turned 14. Yes, she was born in 1995--makes Ajla seem old . The score was 62 26 76(3). She next plays the #5 seed, Tina SCHIECHTL (#409).

And, yes, surprisingly, Hana also won. She beat the #16 seed Dominika DIESKOVA (#586) without much drama, 64 64. I believe this is Hana's first pro match. The ITF website says "There is no biography data on file for this player." Not for much longer!

Hana next plays Katarina KACHLIKOVA, currently unranked but with a career-high ranking of #217.

Good luck to the sisters! It would be great if Croatia could have a winning sister duo, like the Bondarenkos, Radwanskas and Williamses.

Re: Ajla Tomljanovic thread!

didn't exect such a close scoreline...abaza is ranked #3 in the under 18s in the u.s., but still shouldn't even be challenging ajla. ajla has had a couple of brainfart matches that she's recovered from well though, so lets just hope it was one of those
hana i still don't really expect anything from her. she's committed to playing at the university of virginia in the fall

ugh, why do they all suck????????

Abaza is ranked #3 nationally in the under 14s in the U.S, actually.
