Well, we all know how good she is. We all knew her year would turn around; we just didn't know WHEN. She picked a great week for it to happen; maybe I'll get to see her on the Tennis Channel!
I agree, it won't be so hard to defend those 2007 points. Remember when she had to play FOUR rounds of qualies (for zero points!) just to get into a crummy 10K? I am so glad those days are behind her! But it was her success in those 10Ks that brought her to my attention, so I'm glad she played them. She has really done it the hard way, hasn't she, with very, very few WCs ever handed to her -- I only remember one, for Bronx qualies. Meanwhile, hopeless Brie Whitehead was getting WCs into WTA events!
jelena's points later in the year won't be tough to defend if she is consistently playing the tougher challenger/wta events (which she'll be able to do with her ranking very soon )
Absolutely right you are, Croat123. Besides, through mid-September, Jelena only has to defend a measly 28 points. The majority of her points, by far, came after that, especially in October and November. 2008 looks great for Jelena--I can't wait 'til she plays her first WTA event!
i wonder if jelena hits her first serve twice. she served at 71% today, but had 7 doubles. she won 6 of 10 points on her second serve when she got the serve in play which is pretty close to her first serve points percentage.
great job jele!!! she's beaten two tour-level players easily back to back...must better serving today. i think she's ready for the tour (although i'm guessing she will stay in the states for the spring challenger swing first
