Re: ~Petra Martic~

No, definately not doing a Petkovic. This was a disaster. She should seriously consider switching to ITF's until she finds some steady form.

Re: ~Petra Martic~

Awful result!
Very dissapointing that she has no consistency and can lose to anyone.

Earlier this week she almost beat Petrova, who has gone on to reach the final, and now this

Re: ~Petra Martic~

And Petrova is in Tokyo final!
Maybe Petra didn't switch good on conditions in Beijing.

Ana Konjuh | Donna Vekic | Mirjana Lucic-Baroni | Petra Martic | Jana Fett | Tena Lukas | Tereza Mrdeza
Aleksandra Krunic | Anett Kontaveit | Beatriz Haddad Maia | Ivana Jorovic | Kaia Kanepi | Garbine Muguruza | Sorana Cirstea | Sabine Lisicki | Jelena Ostapenko | Caroline Wozniacki | Venus Williams | Belinda Bencic

Karolina Sprem | Ana Ivanovic | Nicole Vaidisova

Re: ~Petra Martic~

And I was already thinking about Martic vs Morita match.
I'll never learn.

Btw Martic vs Kvitova match from Tokyo was shown on some channel for sure because highlights were shown in Croatian sports news when they were reporting about Petra.
Wish I could see that match, points looked good!

Re: ~Petra Martic~

Petra is not in either of the next week's WTA events, which I find really odd. She could've easily entered Osaka or even the qualies of Linz, but she's either preparing for the upcoming ITF's (which would be good) or she called it quits for this year (which wouldn't IMO).

Re: ~Petra Martic~

I'll never understand these WTA rules - turns out she's playing Linz and is in the main draw with her ranking of 63 eventhough the top seed of the qualies entered the tournament with the ranking of 58.

To some people over at the WTA that must make perfect sense...

Re: ~Petra Martic~

Entry ranking is 4-6 weeks old, basic rule in tennis world.

I get the rule, I just don't get the logic behind it - they enter the tournament using one ranking but are listed for the MD and QD respectively based on another. So now Petra gets to play directly from the main draw, while Begu, who is ranked 5 spots above at the moment, has to qualify.

Re: ~Petra Martic~

It makes a lot of sense. There are players that forget to enter etc. so Q-draw list comes out 3 weeks later. And it's normal that there are some higher ranked players on that list.

I agree it's very confusing, ma re. But it does make sense when you think of it from the players' perspective. They need time to plan their schedules, make travel plans, etc. Acceptance lists help them make those decisions, so that's why they need to be finalized several weeks in advance.

Absolutely, I'm just saying they could use the entry ranking for the forming of MD/QD lists as well, instead of using two separate sets of rankings... Anyway, Petra is playing something and that's important. Let's hope she'll find some of that game from Tokyo, cause the field here is quite tough for an IS event.

Re: ~Petra Martic~

Plays Cirstea in R1.

She'll definately need to bring the goods if she wants anything from this match. Cirstea is best on clay, but she wouldn't be a top 30 regular if she'd knew how to play well on just one surface. Not long ago she made wins against Lisicki and Wickmayer, while over the course of summer she also defeated King, Zheng, Cibulkova and Li.

One thing that Petra will need in that match is definately initiative, cause players who fail to dictate the game against the likes of Cirstea, stand very little chance to go through.
