Retired at 2:6, 1:1 Oh Christ, an injury at worst possible time As long as it's not serious...today's match is less important.

Horrible. No reason given. Maybe she just overplayed.

Rest in Peace Bally!

Re: The "Ivana Lisjak deserves a cheering thread" thread

Ivana made another move up the rankings this week: from 266 to 248. Considering that she's not defending any more points this year, that should be barely good enough to get her into AO qualies.

Re: The "Ivana Lisjak deserves a cheering thread" thread

^^ The cut-off is sometimes really low, like in the 280's or something, so it might be more than barely good enough. It all depends on how crowded the field will be in 2011.

Looks like Ivana is targeting another title - on the entry for Opole 25k that starts next week...

Re: The "Ivana Lisjak deserves a cheering thread" thread

^ She's also on the entry list for this week's Minsk $25K. In R1 she plays Ganna Piven (currently and CH #282). Good luck, Ivana--win your third $25K in a row!

I'm afraid the old Ivana is back:

Ganna PIVEN (UKR) defeated Ivana LISJAK (CRO) 6-4 6-4

Re: The "Ivana Lisjak deserves a cheering thread" thread

Hopefully she just needs some matches to get back on track. Might be a bit rusty after a break. She's also on the entry lists for next, and the week after that (25k), so things should get better.

Ivana is just two spots out by now, so she'll squeeze into the MD.

Re: The "Ivana Lisjak deserves a cheering thread" thread

Ivana was hostile to me in Facebook Maybe I was too nosy though But she could have been nicer!

The belief that man is an irresolute creature pulled this way and that by two forces of equal strength, alternately winning and losing the battle for his soul; the conviction that human life is nothing more than an uncertain struggle between heaven and hell; the faith in two opposed entities, Satan and Christ - all this was bound to engender those internal discords in which the mind, excited by the incessant fighting, stimulated as it were by the constant promises and threats, ends up by giving in and prostitutes itself to whichever of the two combatants has been more obstinate in its pursuit. Life isn't black and white, it's gold.

Re: The "Ivana Lisjak deserves a cheering thread" thread

Ivana is in Prerov MD this week. In R1 she plays a local WC, Klapkova. She's ranked in the 800s but is coming back from a long absence and has a CH of 107 back in 2006.

Good luck, Ivana!

Re: The "Ivana Lisjak deserves a cheering thread" thread

^^ Could be a tricky match-up.

This week is the last chance to improve rankings for AO entry list and Ivana needs every single point (she won more than 1 point in just 11 events btw). Semifinal here is probably what she would need as a minimum, that would get her to ~235, but we can't know for sure. She won a round in the qualies of AO this year, so it would be a shame if she couldn't defend that in 2011.

Fingers crossed

Re: The "Ivana Lisjak deserves a cheering thread" thread

Whoever wins (c'mon, Ivana!) will likely play the #7 seed, Jurikova. That would be winnable for Ivana if she's in form.
