Fed Cup, Croatia 2017

Majoli just nominated our team for this year, it'll be Konjuh, Vekic, Lukas and Boskovic who will be traveling to Tallin in early February.

Martic, Fett and Jurak were also invited, but opted to decline, due to their respective needs to overcome injuries and/or get their careers back on track after prolonged breaks away from the competition.

Discuss.

P. S. I think we're screwed no matter the draw, and that we'll stay in the shit zone for at least another year.

Re: Fed Cup 2017

I hope Vekic finds some form until then so she wouldn't be exactly walking bye.
And yeah I also see no chances for anything better than usual.
Shame about Jurak not playing, big blow for doubles.

Re: Fed Cup 2017

Bad for the team, but good experience for Lea. Hopefully she'll have a decent pro career.

Re: Fed Cup 2017

Konjuh
There will be big pressure on her

Vekic
She will for sure make a mess

Bad for Croatia that Jurak declined
Croatia needs a good doubles team that wins points

Also talented Fett is a big loss

Martic could also have helped in doubles

Serena: "We have great personalities like Jelena (Jankovic) on the tour."
Jelena: "If I had to pick someone after me, I'd pick Serena."

Good Luck
Serena Williams Maria Sharapova Jelena Jankovic
A. Radwanska V. Zvonareva C. Wozniacki N. Petrova M. Hingis
T. Paszek A. Chakvetadze K. Sprem J. Dokic I. Tulyaganova A. Myskina

Re: Fed Cup 2017

You only get out of Europe/Africa Zone if you play with your best team
With Fett and Martic or Jurak I would have seen a chance
But with Konjuh/Vekic/Lukas/Boskovic difficult

BTW what about Lucic ?

Serena: "We have great personalities like Jelena (Jankovic) on the tour."
Jelena: "If I had to pick someone after me, I'd pick Serena."

Good Luck

Re: Fed Cup, Croatia 2017

With Fett, Konjuh and Jurak we'd be among the favorites for the promotion spot, surely.

^^ Lucic and Majoli have too long of a history, so Mirjana never plays FC anymore.

Re: Fed Cup, Croatia 2017

Oh man
Majoli has to go

Konjuh will have to carry the whole team on her back, a jadna BEBA.
If i was Majoli (and I am really happy that i am not her ), I would pick Konjuh, Vukić, Vrljić for the doubles and Corić to play in a disguise and pretend that he is Maja Guza-Dojka

So participating nations are:

Austria
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Bulgaria
Croatia
Estonia
Georgia
Great Britian
Hungary
Israel
Latvia
Poland
Portugal
Serbia
Turkey

will be hard.
Looks like favs on paper are Latvia, Poland and Serbia plus Hungary maybe (Babos+Galfi)

Linette Lucic-Baroni Konjuh Jurak Coric Ostapenko
Martić, Mrdeza, Fett, Lukas, Spears, Srebotnik, Tsurenko, Rosolska, Stosur, Savchuk, Kvitova, Kerber, Watson, Witthoeft, Radwanska, Petkovic, Venus, JJ, Beck, Lottner, Goerges, Barthel, Crazy Laura, Shvedova, Shuai Zhang, Dellacqua, Schiavone, Kania, Piter, Lehnert, Schnyder, Swiatek, Chwalinska
Domachowska Ivanovic Dementieva Clijsters

Re: Fed Cup, Croatia 2017

Dissapointing lineup IMO we're bound to stay in Europe/Africa Zone another year :/

BTW what about Vrljic and Mrdeza? They're experienced players, and Vrljic can also play doubles. Any info about were they invited?

I wonder if Fett will now be a late substitute...

Would be nice, but she has a lot of lost time to make up for in her own tennis career, so that's probably what she'll focus on now, especially given the form she is in. Wouldn't surprise me if her Hobart run lands her some wild cards into International-level events in the coming weeks or something similar.

But I guess it's still possible in theory that she shows up.

Re: Fed Cup, Croatia 2017

I think a lot will depend on the draw

In my opinion they have a small chance - if Croatia avoids GB (Konta !)

Of course both Konjuh and Vekic will have to play their best, that is for sure

Did Mirjana decline or did Iva Majoli not even ask Mirjana ?

Mirjana Lucic would have been a big help

Jelena: "If I had to pick someone after me, I'd pick Serena."

Not sure, but I remember a few years ago Iva said she'll never invite her again, after they had several fall outs over the years. Majoli says Mirjana had unreasonable demands regarding pay and covering of traveling costs etc., and she failed to show up several times when she was invited. Mirjana said those instances could be explained with her being injured etc., but could never prove those claims with medical documentation.

In other words, it's complicated.

Re: Fed Cup, Croatia 2017

So it'll be Hungary (Babos, Galfi, Stollar, Bukta), and Bosnia and Herzegovina (Herdzelas, Simic, Husaric, Berberovic).

The winner faces the best from group C, so Great Britain, Turkey, Latvia or Portugal.

Re: Fed Cup, Croatia 2017

Honestly, about as good a draw as we could hope for. Konjuh can beat Babos
