Re: Pan am games/tennis

Gabriela will play the mixed doubles with Bester.
Canada should win a medal or two given the expected field.

Re: Pan am games/tennis

Draws are out on Wikipedia.

If correct, Abanda could face Puig in R2 and Dabrowski coul seek revenge against Chirico in R2.
Carol and Gaby are one of the seven team playing the women doubles event and Gaby teams up with Brayden in the mixed doubles draw.

Only seven teams for women doubles? WTF.

The draws are correct. Official draw on the PanAm site.

http://results.toronto2015.org/IRS/e...-s-singles.htm

Click on Summary at each of the events.

Tickets are sold out for tennis on Sunday? For these draws? Really?

Is the main stadium the grandstand or Aviva Center? Perhaps some people expected Milos, Genie and Vasek to show up?
The Brazilian team has to win one match one way or another and they're guaranteed to get a medal.

Its just general grounds admission and seating is first come first served. Except for the people who need accomadation for physical difficulties.

This way they don't really tell us how many tickets there really are for the thing. I was shocked I was going to take 1hour and 15 minute public transit ride from do downtown out there. Ticket holders get free public transit for the day of their ticket.

I'm interested in seeing Schnur (but not really $35 interested). If he wasn't already in the draw here, they should have called him up for Davis Cup.

Re: Pan am games/tennis

They need to take tennis out of the Pan Am games if they can't make it into a meaningful event. Any draw with less than 16 players or teams is meaningless. Even the women's singles, with 30 players, is barely meaningful. Maybe they should make it into a ITF event? Then they would have to figure out how to manage the fact that only players from the Americas are allowed to compete. I don't know if it could work.

For the record, I'll go out on a limb and say that Serena Williams is the best player in the Americas right now. All the top players are American. The best of the rest are Bouchard, Puig, Duque Marino and Pereira, all of whom are playing like they are ranked about 100. Maybe Bouchard should have tried to get into the Pan Am games after she lost at Wimbledon?

They're going for the cheap and cheerful look. Except for the train station renovation. That one is expensive and late.

Tennis is already an optional PanAm event. Obviously Toronto has a good enough facility they could use without spending any more money (though we ended up building one for wheelchair tennis ) and believes they can win a few medals so they decided to organize it. Its not like tennis at the Asian games is any more meaningful even though they have full draws.

As you say, it can't be a points event because it is a closed regional championship. They have closed events in junior that count for ITF points but all pro events (except the YE tour championships) are Open entry by definition.

The only meaningful thing is the ITF has said the champions are first in line for a Rio 2016 WC. Presumably that's why Puig and Davis are playing, since they might be on the bubble.

Not Davis because the USA will meet their quotas. So Davis will make it with her ranking or not

Re: Pan am games/tennis

There's probably more people to watch the Pan Am games than WTA #20 vs WTA #26 on a Tuesday morning at Aviva Centre and that's not saying much.

Abanda found a way to win. She must be rusty.

Re: Pan am games/tennis

All three Canadians made it to the singles round of 16. Well done. I'm going on Tuesday.

I'm here now. Going to watch some of Brayden's match against Novikov. Then Franckie against Puig.
