Canada will host Belarus at home in the 1st round of #FedCup World Group II in February 2016.

Re: Fed Cup 2016

Tennis Canada is looking to "lock up" commitments from everyone as soon as possible.

Even if no junior is nominated, they should invite them as sparring partners or something. They always have Bester, Polansky, Peliwo, Schnurr and even a doubles back-up for the guys.

The big question is whether they'll go outside of Quebec.

Re: Fed Cup 2016

Aside from passively aggressively trying to shame Genie into playing this tie, Quebec City doesn't make much sense.

There was zero interest in the Coupe Banque Nationale and people won't buy tickets if Genie doesn't show up. Well, Azarenka does have bigger star power than Pliskova and Allertova ...

Another year that if she doesn't play, Arash Madani will transform Shaapova and Azarenka into national heroes although they couldn't care less about Fed Cup except for the three mandatory ties.

It would be nice for the journalists to ask Tennis Canada the though questions aka why is there only one Canadian ranked inside the top 200 inside of blaming Genie for anything that goes wrong.

If she plays, she better shake everyone's hand.

Re: Fed Cup 2016

Should not be too hard to fit into her schedule, right? A week off at least even if she makes it deep in AO2016. I think she has to play this.
Fed Cup and Davis Cup are irrelevant events.
The players that can win it will go all-in for one year and reeks all the PR benefits then won't give a crap about it for the rest of their career. Genie doesn't have any shot whatsoever and shouldn't be bothered.

Murray didn't give it a second thought for years but realized how it benefited the Big Four and is now set to become a national hero for beating ... Belgium. Skipping the WTF is BS and even if he does, the rewards will be worth it. Millions in bonuses, endorsements and probably a knighthood.

Genie will drop a lot of in the rankings and she'll only have a few tournaments to make up for it if she wants to go to Rio. How absurd would it be to have played all these ties for nothing?

Don't bother with Fichman, Dabrowski or Wozniak and nominate the juniors like PowerShot said.

To Wiggly's point, I would not only nominate a junior, I would put her in 2nd singles. That, of course would be Charlotte Robillard-Millette.

Re: Fed Cup 2016

She could pull a Sharapova and withdraw due to a virus or an "injury" for Sunday's match.

Shake the hands, speak a little French and show up in Sunday with a little bag of ice on the knee and fake enthusiasm while cheering for the juniors. She could say she was severely injured but desperately wanted to play at least one match. People always fell for these excuses which couldn't be more fake and/or transparent.

Playing Quebec City wouldn't be THAT bad but she has no business taking part in any tie not bot being played on clay in April. Let Canada slip back into the Americas Zonal Group, that's where we/they belong anyway.

Re: Fed Cup 2016

To come to QC City and shake hands with Azarenka could erase a lot of negativity from 2015.

It's better not to come and get insulted by clueless Madani than to come and not shake hands again, though.

However, she played five ties already and trying to carry the team in a lost cause if Vika shows up is a waste of energy. She's the only Canadian ranked inside the top 300. The responsibility shouldn't be on Bouchard but on Tennis Canada as they haven't have success with NTC players so far in the pros.

Hopefully they invite some juniors if they aren't playing weak 25Ks Down Under.

Re: Fed Cup 2016

Tennis Canada knows what they're doing, you have to give them credit.

Sharapova has said she'll show up in Moscow but hope to not to play and only cheer from the stands.

The team is a huge mess. Wozniak doesn't stand a chance against a top 100 player right now, Fichman and Zhao struggle to even qualify or win a round in 25Ks. Dabrowski hasn't played a singles match since October. The juniors ain't beating Azarenka. Abanda could beat the #2 player if she plays well.

The sharks can already sense drama.

Re: Fed Cup 2016

Big mistake. You're not winning the tie with that team, so as I said months ago, bring in the juniors and let them get some experience.

I stand corrected. You guys actually do have a chance.

I think you guys are gonna win 3-2. Love your chances in doubles.

Re: Fed Cup 2016

Govortsova is reportedly somewhat injured or isn't in form. Abanda can beat her and Wozniak isn't losing to Sasnovich.

They need to get out of Quebec City. The crowd just isn't interested if Bouchard isn't there although the Canadian turn out was abysmal against Romania in Montreal. Still, Wozniak probably plays in better the province and Bouchard isn't showing up in Saskatoon anytime soon.
