Re: Caroline Garcia

Great news to start the day.

Bigger chance now for both Dasha and Caro to make deeper runs. Was really too tough draw for both of them.

Re: Caroline Garcia

Caro beat Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-4 6-3. I didn't see much but apparently she was behind a break once or twice in the first set. Also I think it's her first ever win in MD in Tokyo

Re: Caroline Garcia

As usual she dispatches the lesser player in straight sets. Nara next. This will be more difficult because of the home actor, but a win here could set up that Muguruza clash we were robbed of at the US Open!

Only issue was closing it out. Some of you will be torn for the next match but not me
I hope she can play one of her best matches against a top player but I'm not too confident.

Re: Caroline Garcia

I finally get to see this match and i am excited for it. Not only are they two of my favourite players, but i also think it is an interesting match-up.

If Caro is smart, i believe she has the tools to beat Garbine. Muguruza has generally struggled with big servers and power players and Caro fits into both. I think Caro needs to be smart about how she uses her weapons though, because if she gets into a slugging match with Garbine she will lose.

The forehand needs to be targeted, and if Caro can get into that exchange then i believe she will win. If she gets into backhand exchanges then i do not see her winning.

Re: Caroline Garcia

Well then. I expected more. I blame her only for 1st set bcs she was so tense and intimidated. She started playing really well during second set even managed to get break back and then collapsed trying to take lead on serve.

Sometimes she didnt have luck with some shots really. But a lot of these errors were forced by Garbine who player very good match. Probably wouldnt change anything either but result could be more aesthetical lets say.

My general impression is Caro needs more of these matches vs.top players more often to get the needed finesses and then it will start clicking for her. Today challenge was too tough for her.

She will have another one soon.

17 and 1st unseeded in Wuhan, she will face Kerber in 1st round just when she is back to her level.
Very unlucky.

Re: Caroline Garcia

Oh dear God, and exactly when Angie is in GOATber mode!

Lets hope Angie makes the finals here in Tokyo with lots of 3setters and comes fatigued in Wuhan.
I can already smell the loss given Caro record vs. top players.

Re: Caroline Garcia

Now I hope that one seed will retire so Caroline will take her place... not good state of mind, I know, I'm sorry
I am disappointed to see this loss, but yes she was tense against her, like against all very top player. There is still a world between them, but it's mental, not tennistic.
Let's see what will happen in Wuhan...

Re: Caroline Garcia

She looks like she has stage fright against the big names recently. But on the other hand she played so well in the fed cup final singles matches at the end of last season

Yes, it's mental, she needs to do a LOT of work on that side of her game! But will she??
