I still have my own doubts about Serena's participation. Mostly because I can't see her flying to Oz for 1 event then coming home again. So, I'm not sure. It would be unfortunate for the defending Champ to not be there. I hope she goes and plays there. But I'm skeptical. I mean it's gonna be hard to play well there with zero competitive matches for the last 7 months. Gonna be hard.

Ithink noone in TOP 20 will miss OZ, many will be flying down there, with only 1 event to play...

If no one withdraws, this will be the first time all WTA's top 20 players have played @ the Aussie Open, I believe

i hope to see someone outside the top 20 winning it. venus and serena have made it to so many grand slam finals so i think its about time its someone elses turn.

No one outside the top 20 has a chance of winning.
Apparently Capriati has a back injury so I think she might withdraw.
The AO is a Slam, there are many players who will just play that and nothing else, bc it is important.

Capriati will most likely withdraw considering she has a back injury. She just had an injury at not the right time.. Hope she recovers soon!!

Best of Luck in 2004:

I think everyone who will play will have some sort of CHANCE to win it. Even Maria S.

I personally wouldn't bet with my life that there will not be GS champion outside top 20.

i completely agree with vutt. I think everyone has a chance of winning a grand slam. its the start of a new year. you just have to put your mind to it and focus and practise and you should achieve good results.

If someone outside of the top 20 did win a GS, I'd find it brilliant! It would be a surprise, which makes tennis more exciting

If you had told Justine Henin-Hardenne that she'd end 2003 as the World no.1 with two Grand Slam titles under her belt...she'd have asked you what you had been smoking
Ashley H! Kim C! Lindsay D! Jen C! K-Lina S! Dinaria S! Ai S! Lisa R! Maria K! Svetlana K! Jelena D! Alicia M! and to all the legends... Martina H! Steffi G! Monica S!
