Re: Kiki Bertens

Kiki lost 46 63 67(3) to Cetkovska

Seems like a good match, she was down 1-4 in the final set and got it back to a tb. She had 6 unconverted games though

In the tiebreak Cetkovska was better unfortunately. Still a good week for Kiki who is now headed to Bastad Q.

Luckily for the American hardcourt season she can use her new ranking as an entry rank. For WTA Washington she is 2 out of MD. This is her schedule by the way. She had a similar schedule last year but didn't play Cincinnati and New Haven last year so I wouldn't be surprised if she skipped one of these:

Periode Toernooi Website
7 t/m 13 juli WTA Boekarest, Roemenië (Q) Toernooisite
14 t/m 20 juli WTA Bastad, Zweden (Q) Toernooisite
28 juli t/m 3 augustus WTA Washington, VS (Q)
4 t/m 10 augustus WTA Montreal, Canada (Q)
11 t/m 17 augustus WTA Cincinnati, VS (Q)
17 t/m 24 augustus WTA New Haven, VS (Q)
25 augustus t/m 7 september US Open, VS

Re: Kiki Bertens

why is it that kiki's first serve percentage is always just around the 50%? today even lower. if she could just get that into at least 60% or higher it would help a lot.

Her serve technique is not good, very prone to DF's as well

As always she has good fighting spirit to come back but would be nice to win some of these matches.

Re: Kiki Bertens

She even won 4 points more in the match

I wonder whether she is gonna stay in Bucharest just for doubles but we'll see.

Yeah, noticed that as well. Especially considering she lost in a 3rd set TB Nice she still was able to smile
It was a pretty good week. Did what she had to do and qualify, nice win over Begu and a close match against Cetkovska.
Still has doubles left to play today. But I guess she needs to lose to be able to play Q in Bastad?

Re: Kiki Bertens

Kiki & Timea lost their doubles QF match yesterday against Piter/Savchuk (1) 8-10 in the final set.
Kiki WD from Bastad yesterday. She wants to prepare for the tournaments in the USA, starting in Washington (Q) at the 28th of July.
Understandable, it was a busy schedule from Bucharest, Bastad and then playing every week from Washington to the USO.

Hope she has a few good results on the US hardcourts

Re: Kiki Bertens

Is it just me, or does she play very few tournaments this year?
I personally don't get this WD, but I may be ignorant.

She played 14 tournaments so far this year. There are some players with 18-19 in the race singles top 100. Pereira and Jaksic even
have 21 Seems like 15-16 is average. In 2013 she played 16, but that also included 's-Hertogenbosch which she wasn't able to play this year because of Wimbledon Q. And in 2012 15 tournaments. So it's pretty much the same as other years.

On her website it said she WD to prepare for US tournaments.

Maybe she signed in for Bastad to get some more ranking points for USO EL, but after her good result at RG she allready made USO MD and decided to skip Bastad I think it's good, because now she has 2 weeks to train for US hc tournaments, so an extra week which is good I guess because her schedule right now is to play 5 weeks in a row: Washington (Q), Montreal (Q), Cincinnati (Q), New Haven (Q) and USO. Wouldn't be surprised if she decided to skip New Haven, depending on her results in the other 3 tournaments maybe.

She had her injury and surgery last year so only a 2nd round as Q in Toronto (100 WTA points) to defend.

Re: Kiki Bertens

I dont think your theory is right, because she wasnt on the entry list immediately (so not before RG result)

And also I dont think the number of tournaments is a good measure, since it kind of depends on the number of matches you play each tournament. And of course 5 tournaments in a row is a lot, but I feel she'll skip one of them anyway. And if not, it would have made much more sense to play Bastad instead.
