Smile Vlada Koval

This 14 yo (born July 11, 2001) from Bryansk has been having an impressive year so far!

Today, she's won her 4th title in a row, and 8th title this year overall.

Her titles this year include: 3 G14s (Smena Cup, Minsk Star and Belkanton Cup, all in Belarus), 2 G16s (Governor Cup of Belgorod Region in Russia, and Velcom Cup in Belarus), and 3 G18s (G5 Head Cup in Moldova in June on clay, where she had to qualify, and where she beat Victoria Dema 2 & 0 in the final; G5 Bishkek Sunrise Open last week in Kyrgyzstan on clay, where she beat 5th seed Kristina Sorokolet 1 & 1 in the final; G4 Bishkek Sunrise Open this week on clay, where she beat 4th seed Anna Ukolova 7-6(1) 6-4).

She beat Anna Ukolova, who is just outside the Top 500, twice in a row, last week and this week, both times in straight sets. She did the same with Kristina Sorokolet, who this week is in the Top 600. This week, she beat the 2nd seed Milana Lysova (#377, CHR 266) in R1, 3 & 2.

The first week of August, she was part of Team Russia (with Potapova and Pachkaleva) for the ITF World Junior Tennis Finals, which they won without losing a single match. Vlada didn't drop a single set all week. In the final, they beat the USA, and Vlada scored an impressive 2 & 4 win over Caty McNally (one of the best US young prospects, ranked #446 that week) in her singles match.

Here you can watch the match against McNally:

Some very promising wins and results, so. Really looking forward now to seeing how she does when she moves up to G18s a bit stronger.

This week, she moved up to a CHR of 693 from outside the Top 1000 after winning the G5, let's see if she breaks into the Top 500 next week.

Davay Vlada!

Re: Vlada Koval

This year achievement is totally different than the past two years of her career!
So, could you shed some light on her strength? Name of her past and current training schools and coaches?

Mmh, couldn't find much information. Her coach apparently is Sergey Vaseykin and he seems to be from Bryansk too, so I think she's still based in her hometown.
She definitely doesn't train at the academy where Nastya trains, nor at the academy where Olesya trains (both in Moscow) as these academies promote their players' results and they never mentioned Vlada.

Btw, welcome on here! Were are you from?

Didn't watch the match vs. McNally that I included in my first post? She's a rather aggressive player yeah, not tremendously powerful but her shots seem pretty heavy and her serve quite good and efficient. Don't know what her favourite surface officially is, but I'd suspect it's clay, she looks really comfortable on it, and that's where she's been having her biggest results recently.

If she is an aggressive player in general then there was no reason not to play Les Petits As earlier this year! Hopefully, she will play EH and OB at the end of this year, and Les Petits As of the next year!
Still surprised no other video of her match has surfaced yet!

Re: Vlada Koval

Mmh, I think she didn't play Les Petits As because she didn't have such a good year last year and was not ranked well enough to enter the MD. And I suspect that in this tournament, there is like a quota with a maximum number of players from each country who can be in the MD, so that other smaller countries can have players too in the MD (like in the junior Grand Slams for instance). And Russia has a lot of good players, so only the very top ranked Russian players could enter the MD. Not 100% sure of this though. But I think she could have played qualies there, but she didn't.
Next year, she technically will enter the U16 category of age, but she was born in July and will still be 14 in January when Les Petits As takes place, so I think she should theoretically play it as it's an U14 tournament. But not sure if she won't automatically be moved out of the U14 of age and into the U16 one when next year starts, not sure about the exact rules.

Anyways, she should be there at EH and the OB, she's one of the top U14 Russian (and European) players now this year, I wouldn't see why she wouldn't want to take part to these prestigious tournaments where she belongs.
Actually, I'm looking forward to the rest of the year, to seeing if she tries stronger G18s on clay or if she goes for tournaments on hard, and then the "US swing".
