Post Eggy, is it someone we know?

Really, maybe it is you? I mean, Russian daily #1 Izvestia suddenly publishes the article about Kuznetsova closing on Juniors #1.
http://www.sports.ru/today/tennis/13500000000014118.html

Who did that for them? 'Izvestia' has never been interested in Russian juniors, and now, suddenly they do it. And this kind of information, you won't get it from newswires, it is pretty *specific*. Well, we know why, say, Sport-Express does that.. But Izvestia.. This is weird.. Especially taking into account that Izvestia has always been notorious for publishing ugly articles on Kournikova and Kafelnikov...

Then that's good news that Izvestia is starting to give some good tennis coverage in it's sports section. Da?

For as long as it lasts. In Russia there are 2.5 professional journalists that are capable of writing competently about tennis, or at least it looked that way so far. There are knowledgeable people, but I guess few organisations can afford having a person knowledgeble in tennis full-time. So mostly they have those guys, like that Shidlovskiy/Sredizemski/Bystrov character from Izvestia, who knows little, full of shit and always ready to pick up some dirty rumour or steal someone else's article. I would not be surprised, that this "Polyakov" is also another nickname of the same person, but this time that person bothered ( simply because there is nothing else to do, no other tennis ) to surf Internet and pick up some pieces and put them in to article.

The only newspaper whose tennis coverage I really like is "Sovetski Sport". They are plain solid, they always write themselves, no dirty rumours, no chasing of scandalous headlines.

I can explain this. This guy who wrote the article does not know much about tennis. As a matter of fact, he just collected all the stories I wrote about this event and copied them.
I wasn`t much surprised.

Ys, you will be surprised. "Sovietsky sport" now is the part of media-holding, which also includes "Izvestia", "Komsomolskaya Pravda" etc. Now they have to write shit about all kinds of sport. They had a hot-line with Elena Dementieva recently, well, that was awful. Elena was furious, when she saw what they wrote. "I will never talk to them again" - her exact words.

fresh2flash,

really? Up to recently they looked respectable.. What exactly upset Elena in that hot-line? It was fun to read, and I remember nothing even remotely sounding as scandalous.. Did they write something she didn't say? But then I guess both sides have audiorecord of hot-line. So it is either easily sueable as something made up, or , well, true. Unless there was an agreement between them and Elena about what they can write and what they can't. That is surprising anyway.

So, do you know who is that Polyakov? If it is the guy who was writing for them previously but with new name, then no surprise. He used to steal from writers all over the world, from John Wertheim to Bud Collins.

Anyways, why is it that some people write about sport on regular basis ( like you ) and some others are being sent to cover major events ( like US Open ) and they look not being even interested in the sport. Like that guy that your newspaper sent to US Open ( Eduard something? if I am not mistaken, a bald guy, about 50+ yo ).

Eduard Lipovetsky? Well, he lives in the States, that is the reason . I was accreditated for the French Open and lesser events such as Fed Cup.
Polyakov is a nickname of both - Romuald Shidlovsky and Roman Sredizemsky.

Well, so Polyakov and Shidlovski and Sredizemski is the same person? I was sure that Shidlovski, Sredizemski and Bystrov is the same person. One can't borrow that disgusting writing style.. It has to belong to the same guy..

Well, I don't understand what's a point of accreditating someone not interested, even if it is cheaper because he lives here in US. I lost a lot of respect to the newspaper after that. It looked like the coverage of US Open is just a checkbox in the table that needs to be marked. Next year US Open will probably be the biggest event of the year, because RG and W will certainly be downgraded to kinda secondary events in terms of attention because of the World Cup, so if you have a choice, choose US Open..

No, Shidlovsky and Sredizemsky are two different persons, I know both. But they also both use the same nickname.

<It looked like the coverage of US Open is just a checkbox in the table that needs to be marked. >
Unfortunately, that`s true. Tennis is not a top sport in our daily. It goes along, say, voleyball and handball, and far behind soccer, hockey and basketball.

Really? Well, of course, you should know that well, but it is very difficult to believe.. Shidlovski was writing his articles last year, and then twice he was caught on primitive plagiarizing, and after that he disappeared, and didn't seem to write anything at all. But right at that moment that Sredizemski character came out of nowhere and started writing in exactly same fashion. I can't believe that two different persons could be that similar..

Shidlovski was reporting for Izvestia from the last Kremlin Cup. I was wathcing him consulting with Evgeniy Fediakov (Sport-Express`s writer) there and again.
I also begin to consider moving to Tennis + as it`s the only solid edition devoted to Tennis. In our paper I alwais need to ask football or hockey guys to give me some space. In the January`s edition there will be two articles of mine.
