Well, in any case I hope that she talked to Fed Cup captain before making that commitment. Note, that announcement came relatively short before the exhibition ( one month ahead ), while Detroit exhibition match with Seles was announced long before. Also SA exhbition would require much more logistical effort so probably it was planned a while ago but they waited for her final answer for quite a long. The fact that announcement came right after Kremlin Cup is indicative. She was seen near the captain several times in there, perhaps he agreed not to use her for Fed Cup this year so she could go ahead with that exhibition. In any case, I'd prefer to see her playing for her country, but I am not sure that her foot is ready for quick adaptation to claycourts.

I think now we got a serious problem of who'll play at #2. We simply don't have a reliable #2, especially for clay. OK, Dementieva is #1.
Likhovtseva is in as an all-rounder. But who will be the #2 singles selection? I hoped that Myskina's results were of any real indication, but losing to a junior, who loses the next round? It doesn't make much sense. I would still oppose selecting Lina - she won't adjust to clay quickly. Then who? Nadia? She is not in good form. Likhovtseva at #2? I would not do that either. I think at this point we can't rule out selecting Tanya Panova, who is the best Fed Cup player in Russia's history. But all in all, I think we are in trouble.

Sorry, I don't want Likhovtseva playing singles on red clay. Is there any way they could fly in Maria Sharapova for the occasion?

P.S. - Actually, I would like to see Myskina play #2 singles. She deserves it. But I'm worried about her playing on red clay. Why don't Likhovtseva and Petrova play doubles together in one tournament in preparation for Fed Cup. Is that asking too much? And Nadia's form is so bad at the moment, I don't even know if she can help in the doubles.

Anastasia has entered into Pattaya City but that was before her good run in Moscow.

Lina will be in squad as I don't see Larisa leaving her out .... not good in player/coach terms.

Lina/Elena if they have another good week here in doubles might even get to play doubles as well.

Good luck in 2016 to my favs

Have you seen them playing doubles Lina/Elena D. They are playing like a bad copy of Williams sisters, with no team work at all.

ys .... thats how most new teams play .... you get better understanding by playing together more often.

Nadia/Elena L are also a new pairing.

I cannot see Elena Likhovtseva being omitted though.... due to her versatility and experience.

Good luck in 2016 to my favs

It looks like they'll have to consider Panova now. She is playing well..

Question

Is Elena L. injured? She was supposed to be top seed in Bratislava this week, and she is not there.

If she is hurt, it will be harder to field a really good team.

WOW! I have just read ys's searing criticism against the unpatriotic American players who are choosing not to play Fed Cup.

Here is an excerpt:

"You go and play. And these sissy primadonnas don't want to do that? Who cares about their excuses.."

With that in mind, I fully expect ys to soon unleash the VERY SAME venom against Anna K., who is ALSO choosing not to play, preferring to go for the $$$$$ on offer in South Africa instead.

Or is there one standard for the Americans and another for Anna?

ys??

There was an interview of Tarpitshev (Russian captain ) during the Kremlin Cup who said that in his opinion Anna's results are no surprise, that she is not fit to play on the top level yet, that she breathes too heavily after chasing balls, and that he thinks it will take her at least 3-4 more monthes to get back in good form. If I were her, I would clearly consider it as an official non-selection statement.

Based on current form they just have to select Panova. And apologise for all they did to her at Fed Cup and Olympics non-selection.

ys ..... I know she's playing great and stuff

but I know they still won't pick her

For her to be picked , Tatiana has to win a SLAM , they just got it in for her for some reason.

Good luck in 2016 to my favs

I don't know, but the options for doubles have certainly multipled in the past few weeks, with titles for Petrova and Bovina, and a finals appearance for Lina and Elena D! Add in the excellent doubles veteran Elena L. and you have an abundance of excellent choices for the coach!

I can't wait to see who they will pick for the dubs.

Doubles is not a concern. Second singles spot is.
