Well, I think my translation was not literal, but quite close, anyway, judge for yourself:
http://www.sovsport.ru/media/gazeta/...0/09201501.htm

I think the championships will be between her,
Fokina, Zvonaryova and Bastrikova.

Also the biggest upset of the first round, according to that report, is Anna Chakhvetadze beating much higher ranked
Natalia Vizunova.

Interesting to see quite a few young players from Moscow of Georgian origin among Russian upcomers - Anna, and also one of the best Russion juniors Gabashvili..

Dinara does state that ...... finding it a bit funny ... but its a National Champs so i don't think much will be made of it.

ys ...... Anna C beating Natalia is no suprise to me .

Anna is very good , she was part of the Russian U14 team that got to the finals last month and she was unbeaten.

Good luck to my favs

Vera Zvonaryova could not defend her title and lost the final to Galya Fokina. Thus, Fokina gets the wild card into the main draw of Kremlin Cup. Dinara Safina got the third place. It appears that Fokina played in all three finals and almost did what Bobby Riggs did at Wimbledon.. But she lost the mixed finals..

About time Galya started to show her capabilities . She's just like Patty in appearance (with darker hair) and play .

Eggy, Galina Fokina is just like Paty Schnyder in appearance? You've got to be kidding. Fokina is much prettier. Galina is very naturaly pretty. In a sweet way, too. The question that needs to be asked is: Does Fokina have Schnyder type of talent?

TBE, what do you know about Alisa Kleibanova? I've read in the Tennis+ that she lost the U14 Russian finals to Chakhvetadze, who is great talent. But Alisa is only 11.. She must be a heck of a talent..

I guess that makes sense, because that was in the 7th (meaning July ) issue of Tennis+, so they were probably reporting tournaments before that, when Alisa was 11.

YS, do you have English translation for Tennis+ magazine? Where do I find it on the internet. If I find it, can I use AltaVista's english translation? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I've seen Kleibanova training some years ago with her mom who is a real monster. She was shouting really badly at her when Alisa was missing shots etc. I've heard that she is still coaching her...
the cat in the hat, I doubt there is an online version of the tennis + mag.there is a small description of current issues on www.tennis-russia.ru but it doesn't say much

Thank you Nina. I already know about the tennis-russia.ru website. But for some reason, I can only read a couple of stories per issue. Whereas I used to enjoy reading all the stories in each issue. What happened? They used to have english translation, and I would enjoy reading Tennis+ and the old issues of Matcboll magazine. By the way Nina, do you know who that girls is, who posed for the cover of Matchboll with Anna Kournikova? At first, a year or so ago, I thought it was Vera Zvonareva at first. But that's not Vera. Any help would be appreciated. Udachi Nina_rus!
