Re: Alexandra Artamonova

Alex

Knew she'd win it.
Facing the only seed left in the tournament, I think this is winnable as well.

C'mon Artie!

But, hey... What do I know? Alex got smashed 06 06.

Effectively her second double bagel in two weeks.

Re: Alexandra Artamonova

Can Alex keep up her trend of winning at least one match, then getting double bagled in the next?

Moscow 25k

(4)Pemra Ozgen (TUR) v (Q)Tamara Bizhukova (RUS)
Yana Buchina (RUS) v Alexandra Artamonova (RUS)

Already beat Buchina 2 & 4 earlier in the year, so it's a pretty good draw. And beat Ozgen a couple of weeks ago as well. QF is possible. However, this is on clay. So know knows.

Re: Alexandra Artamonova

Alex got lucky winning by retirement aftering losing the first set - 36 43. Ret.

Doubt she'll beat Ozgen on clay, but anything is possible. Just please avoid the DB.

But she can't... 06 06.

Quite amazing really, in a sick kind of way.

Re: Alexandra Artamonova

4 weeks in a row? Can she win her first match or two, then suffer the dreaded double bagel?

Well, she's fulfilled the first part of the deal =

25k Astana

Alex d. (7)Anastasiya Vasylyeva (UKR) 62 76(3)

Next Vs. Kirillova or Ekshibarova. I want revenge on Ekshibarova for that double bagel (36 60 60) three weeks ago. C'mon Alex. Good chance to defend her QF here.

One aspect that you have to be impressed with is her ability to come back after being double bagled. Each time she has come back the next week to win her first match, often against higher ranked opponents.

Re: Alexandra Artamonova

This victory has also put Alex inside the top #350 for the first time in her career. She started the year at #440, so despite the fact she's getting thrashed when she's losing, it's been a good season so far. Consistantly winning her first round match, that's a big positive.

Re: Alexandra Artamonova

Kirillova next.
Way tougher than it looks. Alex will do well to win.

Re: Alexandra Artamonova

As you said, Alex is a bagel girl who still keeps rising.

Great upset of Nastiya. She leads KK 1-0, but Ksenia has been a force this season.

Re: Alexandra Artamonova

Alex lost a close one 57 46, and Ksenia's having a good run here so it's not all bad news.

Couple of weeks off now for Alex... Time to regroup and sort her head out maybe.

Re: Alexandra Artamonova

After two weeks rest lets see what she can produce.

25k Padova
(I so don't get her schedule)

(7)Isabella Shinikova (BUL) v Alexandra Artamonova (RUS)

On clay, I'll be more than impressed if Alex win's this. Shinikova seems semi decent, and shes played all year on clay and is ranked higher than Alex. Get the upset.

Re: Alexandra Artamonova

Alex d. (7)Isabella Shinikova (BUL) 61 64

That's a good win on clay, keeps her 100% first round winning stat this year. This 8 points is enough to put her inside the top 350 and at another career high.
Plays qualifier Lisa Sabino (SUI) in R2, great chance for another QF. It's shaping up to be a nice little season for Alex. Us Open qualies are maybe out of reach, as the progress is slow.. But it's still progress. AO qualies should be the goal.

Russian bagel girl kees on rising!

Re: Alexandra Artamonova

Alex lost a close second round match 64 in the third.

Alex plays a 25k in Sweden this week, second seeded in qualies.
