This is Valeria's first ranked year, and she is currently at a career-high of #529. She won her first ITF title at the 10K Bree, Belgium on clay. For that, she makes Also in the News... on the Russian Watch :)

Lera makes Also in the News... for reaching the semis of Lutz. :) Ranked Top 300 now--French Open qualies are the goal.

She has not made much progress the last few months, maybe she can get some good results the end of this year. She is in Opole MD, first round against Kristina Mladenovic.

Congrats to Valeria for breaking her 6-match losing streak. She did so at the 25K Santa Mirage, defeating #7 seed Irina Buryachok 67(4) 61 60.

Next up, Krista Hardebeck. Interesting match up.

Ugh. In a draw that pits QF v QF, and WC v QF, she happens to draw the #1 seed in the first round. :( (25K Surprise, indeed).

#15 ·
Was hoping for an upset, but Valeria goes down to #1/wc Irina Falconi, 57 26.

Up next probably, Fort Walton Beach.

Fort Walton: Valeria won her two qualifying matches. She now meets #1 qualifier, Heidi El Tabakh, in the first round of the main draw. Heidi won their only meeting, last year, in straight sets.

Bahamas!
Valeria went from #2 alt qualifier on the entry list, to the #8 seed in qualifying.

She won her opening match against Gabriela Dobrowski, 76(8) 61, increasing her h2h 2:0.

Now meets wild card Yasmin Schnack, who Valeria defeated in three last year, in Raleigh.

Valeria easily defeated Yasmin, 61 63.

Now must upset #4 Gail Brodsky to qualify. These two have never met before.

#19 ·
Valeria went down meekly to Gail, 36 16. Oh well.

Not sure where she'll be playing next. Not on the entry list for Osprey.

Valeria is back into qualies of Dothan 50K. She won her first two matches in straight sets and is now in FQR and must play Elena Bovina. Valeria needs a good run, so hope she gets this and a kind place into the draw.

^ Lera won  She defeated Elena, 63 26 62. Not happy that these two were in the same section, though.Would have been happy had either won. She got the best possible spot, I believe, playing Bychkova. Katya does have a 2:0 h2h, but Lera took her to three on red clay.

#25 ·
Well, it looks like a heated battle was interrupted when Katya retired in the third. The score for Lera: 67(5) 64 32 ret. Hope that Katya's okay!

Up next for a spot in the quarters, Madison Brengle.

Too bad it had to end like that, also hope Katya is OK.good luck next round Lera, back to top 300 :yeah:
