Re: Russian titles

By tomorrow afternoon either Sveta will be just a hair behind Nastya ( 2 Tier I against 2 ), or Lena D. will be just a bit behind Sveta, lso on quality..

6 big titles in this season played so far. We got 4 . I can feel another monstrous leap year from our babes, 4 our 6 Super Bigs of this year. I think it will be 3 Slams and Olympics.. I don't think we'll win French. And I am not sure I really care about YEC.

Re: Russian titles

Melbourne: Sharapova.
Paris [i]: Chakvetadze.
Doha: Sharapova.
Dubai: Kuznetsova/Dementieva.

Kuznetsova also made the Sydney final, Zvonareva the Doha final. This is a pretty good start to the year. Would like to see Chakvetadze do a little worse but the rest is fine.

Re: Russian titles

It's been a very good start to 2008 for the WTA Russian's. But I think the 2008 season can be great if a few of the Russina's outside the top 10 stay healthy, find their games and have good years. And I'm talking specifically about Petrova, Zvonareva, Safina and Kirilenko. I have no doubt that if the top 4 Russina's Sharapova, Kuznetsova, Chakvetadze and Dementieva stay healthy they will have very good years. But I think they will need some help from some of their lower ranked compatriots in order to rack up the titles and for this to be a great year for female Russian tennis.

Happiness is like a cat. If you try to coax it or call it, it will avoid you. It will never come. But if you pay no attention to it and go about your business, you'll find it rubbing up against your legs and jumping into your lap. - William Bennett

Re: Russian titles

Elena Dementieva of Russia holds her trophy after beating her compatriot Svetlana Kuznetsova in the final tennis match of the WTA Dubai Tennis Championships in the Gulf emirate on March 1, 2008. Dementieva defeated Kuznetsova 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 to win the WTA Dubai Open title.
