14 yo Alina (born May 27, 2002) from Samara (like Pavs) is the best 2002 Russian girl with Dasha Frayman!
This week at G2 Raanana in Israel, she went through the qualies and she thrashed Leylah Fernandez 0 & 2 in R1 and top seed Lara Salden (17 yo, #72, CHR 49) 1 & 1 in R2, and then beat WC Shelly Bereznyak 4 & 4 in R3 and 6th seed Evgeniya Levashova (17 yo, #99, CHR 12, WTA CHR 657, who was playing her first tournament in 7 months) 5-7 6-3 6-1 in QF
, before falling to 4th seed and eventual champion Sofya Lansere (16 yo, #84) in SF, 5-7 1-6.
She also made the semis in doubles, with Elina Avanesyan - they beat 5th seed Erjavec/Matusova in R2 and 4th seed Mareen/Salden in QF, lost a superclose SF to top seeds Levashova/Nazarkina, 6-7(1) 6-2 [10-12]...
What a promising week!
She's currently out of the Top 500 (#541, CHR 525), will make a big jump in the rankings next week!
She's won the 3 singles final that she's played this year: Cat. 1 G14 Kremlin Cup in Ryazan in January (she was the 2nd seed there, beat 4th seed Elina Avanesyan 1 & 2 in the final), Cat. 3 G16 Baltic Wind in Vsevolozhsk in June (she was the 3rd seed, dismantled top seed Anfisa Korolkova 1 & 0 in the final
), and G5 TSZ Cup in Togliatti in September (she beat 2nd seed Kristina Sorokolet 3 & 1 in R2 and 3rd seed Polina Krupchenko 4 & 3 in the final
At Les Petits As (the strongest U14 tournament in the world) in January, she was seeded 13, beat Kylie Bilchev 6-3 4-6 6-3 in R1 and WC Elsa Jacquemot 1 & 1 in R2, lost 1-6 5-7 to 3rd seed and eventual champion Marta Kostyuk (the best 2002 girl by a margin so far...) in R3.
At the World Junior Tennis Finals (U14 Fed Cup) this summer, she was part of Team Russia with Dasha & Avelina and they snatched the bronze!
They lost 1-2 to USA in SF, but beat Czech Republic 2-1 in the 3rd place tie, with Alina winning her singles match in both ties (she beat Alexa Noel 7-6(4) 7-5, and Kristyna Lavickova 7-6(1) 6-0)!
A couple weeks ago she played the Kubok RTT (which are the year-end junior Masters) in U15 cat., and won the bronze in singles and the gold in doubles.
She's playing the qualies of the G2 in Haifa, Israel atm: she beat Tali Krasnpolski 3 & 0 in Q1 yesterday, and top seed Manon Léonard (#267) 4 & 1 in Q2 today!
She'll face... 7th seed Leylah Fernandez for a spot in the MD tomorrow
