Taechka is part of the Top 3 most promising (by a big margin) 2001 born Russian girls, with Potapova and Koval, she's been very dominant on the U14 European tour this year, having deep runs at almost all the strongest tournaments in this age category and this week she's through to her 2nd singles final in U18, so here's a thread for her too (as Nastya and Vlada already have their own one)! :awww:

She was born on April 6, 2001, she's from Moscow. She's won 3 tournaments so far this year - 3 Cat. 1 G14s: Kungens Kanna & Drottningens Pris in Sweden in February (she was the 4th seed there, beat 3rd seed Oona Orpana 6-2 5-7 6-4 in the final), TIM Essonne in France in March (she was the 2nd seed, beat 5th seed Daria Frayman 6-2 4-6 6-1 in the final), and Bohemia Cafex Cup in Czech Republic in May (she was the 4th seed, beat 5th seed Ekaterina Makarova 3-6 6-3 6-2 in the final). :yeah:
She also won the U14 Russian Championships in June. :) She beat Anfisa Korolkova in the final (and Vlada Koval won the bronze). ;)

She has made 2 more finals this year: at the U14 European Championships in July (she was the top seed, lost to Iga Swiatek 2 & 1 in the final), and at G4 TSZ Cup in Togliatti in September (she had received a MDWC there, lost to 3rd seed Sofya Lansere in the final, 4 & 2).

Plus 2 more SF appearances in G16s - at Governor Cup of Belgorod Region in Russia in February, and at Torneo Biella in Italy in May.

At Les Petits As, which is the biggest U14 tournament in the world with Eddie Herr and the Orange Bowl, held at the beginning of every year, she fell in R3 to 5th seed Amanda Anisimova, 1 & 3 (she was the 11th seed).
Last month, she played the U14 Tennis Europe Junior Masters (a tournament between the 8 best players at the Tennis Europe race, held in two age cats - U14 and U16), she was the actual top seed there but she flopped to Oana Smaranda Corneanu in R1, 5-7 6-1 4-6. :sobbing:

Two weeks ago, she played G3 Siberian Open in Novokuznetsk. She beat (Q)Mariia Tkacheva 2 & 1 in R1 and (6)Milana Lysova 3-6 6-1 6-1 in R2, fell to (4)Maria Kozyreva 4-6 7-6(8) 3-6 in QF.
This week, at G3 Marshall Open in honour of Danny Gelley in Israel, she's through to the final, straight from the qualies! She beat Kateryna Popova 7-6(4) 6-0 in R1, Maya Tayan 3 & 0 in R2, (3)Varvara Gracheva (#139) 6-7(5) 6-2 6-4 in QF, and (5)Sofya Lansere (#250) 2 & 3 in SF today. :yeah:
The wins over Varvara who's almost a year older and has been having solid results lately, and Sofya, who was born in 2000 like Varvara and who routined her in the Togliatti final a couple months ago only, are very nice. :)
In the final, she will face 17 yo 6th seed Dominika Sujova (#251) from Slovakia. Sujova upset top seed Tatiana Makarova in QF, so she's obviously in form this week, but I have the feeling Taya will sweep her 1st U18 singles title tomorrow. Good luck! :cheer::cheer:

Her current junior ranking is 797 (it's her CHR so far).

PS: Her surname is actually pronounced "Pachkalyova" because it's Пачкалёва and not Пачкалева in Russian actually, same case as Zvonareva). ;)

She was part of Team Russia with Nastya and Vlada at the World Junior Tennis Finals (which is the U14 Fed Cup/Davis Cup) this summer, which they won, beating USA in the final :)

Thanks! :awww: That's almost like an OCD though, I have to force myself to stick to checking U18 results only, and U14/16 (and U12 at times) only very occasionally. :tears:

I prefer Nastya and Vlada by a margin for the moment, but Taya has stepped up very convincingly too this year :)

I think that it's because the Russians don't even care to put the ".." on the e in the specific words (therefore when you're learning the language and reading a word on a random source which purpose is not teaching the language, you never know whether it's a "ye" (е) or "yo" (ё) and it's better to doublecheck. :tears: I'm not sure about official documents though, but I'm not surprised that when the names get transcribed into the Latin alphabet, that "mistake" happens. I'm more surprised the players don't care to have it corrected tbh, even though I guess they're so much used to having their names murdered by non Russian people they don't care about the little details.
I remember how Alla K explained that her Twitter handle was AllaK11 because in the US people couldn't pronounce her nam so they just said you're Alla K+11 letters :hysteric:

Is Alla a "syeva" or "syova"

When translating it to English I just assumed they did it how it sounds  That's why there's an "h" in "Chekhlystova  The Estonians would be more familiar with the Latin Alphabet than the Russians though. Her name is always София Чеклистова except in one Russian article they have the "x" instead of the "k".

-tseva :p

Generally, they stick to a general letter-by-letter transcription of the names. The "х" letter is transcribed into "kh", but I find it misleading, especially for Western people who probably think it's more or less pronounced like a mere "k" when it's close to the German "ch" actually. I think "h" would be better for this letter, and some people do use the h, most of the time it is "kh"

Using zh for ж is also less than ideal...

Concerning е/ё, mistakes in transliteration are clearly due to Russians not bothering to note the umlaut, and non-speakers not being aware of its presence.

It happens quite often. Потёмкин is often transliterated as Potemkin, Фёдор as Fedor, etc.

Yeah... Otoh, using "j" would be very misleading for Western Slavs :-/ I think ž is the better option, but then most westerners would pronounce it as a regular r...

Yup. And Алёна becomes Alena in Russian when it's pronounced Alyona... In Ukrainian they don't have the ё letter so they write it Альона and it's pronounced exactly the same, but then the soft sign gets dropped in the transcriptions and it becomes Alona  There's no satisfying solution^

I thought "ж" was "zh"... It's like the "s" in "pleasure" according to wiki :rolls:
Yeah, except the Russians insist a bit longer on the sound when pronouncing this letter. More like pleasssure :p

My Russian teacher told us to think of the noise an insect would make, as the letter itself looks like some insect Ж zhzhzh. Btw, Zhuk (Жук) means bug in Russian

Zhuk idolizes Genie Boo? Really?

About z/zh: I've heard English-language commentators call Youzhny "Youzny" too many times... it used to drive me nuts.

Russians have not been entirely consistent in their own transliteration efforts either... "h" (and its Ancient Greek equivalent, the rough breathing) is mostly rendered as "г" - герой, гимн, гиппопотам, Голливуд, Адольф Гитлер -, but "x" is sometimes used instead (хоккей, холл, etc.)

She was Potapova's fave too last year :oh: :hysteric:
But I think it's just because most youngsters follow the hype, and they probably could relate more to that young girl bursting into the sport's top stage. Nastya was stanning for Vika before that, and I'm sure most of them girls repping La Bouch last year have probably dropped her as their fave already this year :oh:

I love Franckie too, she's my favourite Canadian player by far... Too bad she can't catch a break with injuries, because she's very talented, and she's also very cute (more beautiful than Sloane imo :oh:) :awww:

Yh,that should be it...they are just kids still...they saw someone pretty(even for me Douchie isn't),successful ,young..and they stan for them-makes sense. We all have "mistakes" in that way,i was stanning for Petko when i was 14(just because of her dance :spit: ) :tape:
