I hope she'll recover soon, but really she should have done this right after the olympics (Or at the end of 2011 if she was okay with not having much prep for the olympics)

We know how stubborn she is.. But surgery was unavoidable after all..

She said in a interview in December, that consulted several specialists but no one was able to point where exactly the problem is. Maybe this delayed the surgery..

Well, she made it. We was expecting this. Wish a good recovery for her. Hope to see her in the second semester..

Bepa Get well soon baby

As there are some Masha fans here, I'm not really well informed about her past shoulder surgery, did it take a long time too for her to have the correct diagnosis? Hope Bepa finds some sort of form back like Masha managed to

Maria had a ligament tear. We don't know what Vera has. She said she expect to be back in training on 2 or 3 months, so I think her case is not so severe..

Maria took more than a semester to get back.. I don't remember how much, but was a long time....

Speaking from my own experience, shoulder injuries are a nightmare to deal with!

For one it's such a complicated part of the body, there is a lot of different parts & layers there (and not just the shoulder ether)! With so much that can go wrong it's difficult to work out what exactly is causing the pain and what the best way to fix it is.

Another issue is that shoulder pain can often be a sign of an injury elsewhere that your body is trying to protect (often in the back). So working out what caused the injury - which you have to do to stop it happening again - is bloody tough!

More often than not it's a case of trial and error, which isn't ideal for a pro sports person, who is not going to want multiple invasive procedures! It's also often the case that the area will always be more vulnerable than it was before.

I hope Vera is alright and has a safe, quick recovery. It's hard to believe that she may be close to or even be 29 years old by the time she can return. And it's such a shame she has to lose out on one of her last good years due to injury. At any rate, i wish Vera nothing but the best and hope she's back on court playing & winning again sooner rather than later. God bless her.

Well, surgery it is after all. Frustrating it is that the decision is now and not after the olympics. But maybe there are new facts they did not know by then and now this is the best. I just hope this will give her full recovery on short notice. As already mentioned here shoulder injuries are complicated and not easily repaired. And even worse, how long will it take her to be back at the level she wants tobe? For Sharapova, she came back after 9 months, but took 2 years to get back in he top 10. And Vera does not have that much time, I think. Hope surgery goes well and Vera can come back soon. We'll await any update on your return, Vera.

Can't wait to see her fit again Maybe this time off did her some good, as she could rest both physically and mentally and maybe it gave her some perspective, and maybe when she's back she'll be fresher than ever, it did good to Sveta after all... Just hope the shoulder thing is not too serious.

Well Maria took almost 9 months out of the game. She wanted to come back ready though, and she initially said she'd be back for the Australian Open (so 5/6 months after) but she only ever appeared 2 months after that because it took longer for her to become more comfortable with her serve, I think Bepa will have to chance her service motion too if her tear was as bad as Maria's, even if only temporally because maria said for all of 2009 and even in 2010 she felt pain when serving still.

But as stated by another poster, Maria's tear was rather bad and Vera could have a different injury all together, so hopefully they don't experience the same issues and delays.

My dear friends and fans,
Been a long time since I told you about his return to competition, but I needed some time to more accurately determine the plan and do not give you false information. I am here today to tell you that yesterday I had an operation on his shoulder. As you know, my last match I had at the Olympic Games in London. Since then, I could not participate in the tournament because of the pain in my shoulder, and I had to miss a few months at the beginning of last season because of problems with his shoulder. Since my last match, I did everything possible to get back on the court, but, sorry, no way to rehabilitation, not yielded any results. So at this point, surgery - is the only remaining solution. So from now on I will do my best to get back on the tennis court and on the same level as quickly as possible. Still recovering from surgery may take several months. But, knowing that you, my fans always support me, give me more strength and desire to return to the previous level and become even better.
I really miss you and hope to see you very soon! All the best, Vera."

Reading this makes so much sense. I know I also showed frustration of her pulling out on tournaments and wanting her to come back, but she did everything to find out what she had, avoiding surgery, but finding no other way to do so. But still managed to go to the Olympics which was her goal last year. My respect has now increased for her even more. Vera, have a good recovery and hope to see you soon on court again, even if it will take another few months. We rather wait 6 more months and you being able to complete with the best, than rushing anything. Hope she'll keep us updated on her progress . We miss you too, Vera

Vera..

I'm betting that we will see her, still this year, back on court. Maybe around the US Open...

I don't know, but something tells me that her injury was not as bad as Sharapova was, because pass 15 months undiagnosed with that kind of injury, is too much for me..

Anyway, hope everything is fine now. Will be a long time, but I'm sure this will worth a lot at the end.. Good luck Bepa
