My new nickname for Vera

Seeing as everyone calls Maria Sharapova Masha, And they call Maria Kirilenko Makiri, can we call Vera Zvonareva... Vezvo? Now THAT'S a nickname!!!

Why is it that the world never remembered the name of Johann Gambolputty de von Ausfern-

Hehe you can do it for most of the Russians names, but they all sound goofy

Anmys, Eldem, Masha, Sveku, Vezvo, Napet, Ellik, Elbov... that's just the top 20 in the rankings

Masha is a common nickname for Maria in Russia, I believe. Yuri Sharapov calls his daughter "Masha" (or "Mash-baby"), and Maria Kirilenko is sometimes referred to as Masha too.

The compressed version of "Maria Sharapova" is Mashara, so by that logic Vera Zvonareva would be Vezvona.

Is it correct that Bepa's name means faith in Russian language?

Yup. Faith or belief.

Guess they should of named her disbelief or distrust.

I always thought "Vera" meant "truth", as in "veracity", "verity" or "veritaserum" (truth-potion).

One of Vera's pet-peeves is people who don't tell the truth!

We have some women called Vera or Verity in England, but I don't think any of them are under 60 years old! But I thought the name Vera had a nice ring to it before I even heard of Vera Zvonareva.

Vera means "faith" in Russian, but the name is also influenced by the Latin word verus meanin "true"

And Masha is the nickname of Maria or Mary and Nastya for Anastasia

fuck.
