Hi!For the first I interviewed Vera last may in a junior tournament in Italy(Santa Croce) and so I know her well...and I'm very happy for her success. I think Serena comments aren't so pretty to her...I mean another "big" as Seles would have said "she played great" or so.
Anyway,I write here to tell you aneddotic from Italian Tv.
While Schiavone and Zvonareva were playing,in the second set (on a very favoured score for Vera..maybe 4-0) ,one of the commentators(Clerici, famous tennis writer, not only in Italy...she wrote a book about Suzanne Lenglen too) went to Russian tv box to ask infos about Vera. The incredible answer of Metreveli(fmr finalist at Wimbledon and now opinionist in Russia) was Vera isn't so strong...
After the first set won vs Serena,Clerici(very funny italian commentator) went again there and Metreveli explained his previous comment with the fact Schiavone wasn't a big player so he couldn't judge Vera, really
Finally,Italian commentators closed saying Metreveli perhaps lives in Tbilisi and he don't know anything about tennis cluvbs in Moscow

He was a better player than a journalist he is. He seems to be jealous to every single Russian player. I remember him saying nasty things about Kafelnikov, Safin, Kournikova. He is very opinionated. He'd better have beaten Kodes back then..

Metreveli doesn't like womens tennis at all, he finds it boring and predictable, they are having endless arguments with Anna Dmitrieva (our other commentator who also used to be a tennis player) about it.

here are some interesting personal facts about Vera from WTATOUR.COM (apart from 3001 mistakes in three sentences):

Coached by Julia Kashevarova...Father is Igor Zvonarev and mother is Natalia Zvonareva...No one else in the family plays tennis...Enjoys traveling...Favorites include the color blue, yellow roses, strawberries and Bungakov, author of Naster and Margarita...Other sports interests include volleyball and hockey...Past-times include reading and listening to music...Two pet peeves are people without a sense of humor and people who don't tell the truth...Most memorable experience was losing to Nadia Petrova 6-0, 6-0 at the age of 8.

the last one is a funny one... but I got to remember the fav color of the roses.. will give her one at the US Open.......

Vassilissa is my girl............

losing to Nadya thats a funny one esp when she was 8 and Nadya 10.

I wouldn't call it most memorable, she will change that soon

Good luck to my favs

Vera should overpower Antonella Go girl

The winner of Iva Majoli v Tina Pisnik would be the second round opponent...I know they still need to win both their matches, but why against Iva again? ....oh well, I have a feeling it might be Pisnik...
