Nadia doing charity work

September 30, 2005
Cluj, Romania - Following her quarterfinal appearance at the US Open, Nadia Petrova teamed up with Whirlpool and the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour to assist with improving poverty housing. Petrova joined the global housing charity Habitat for Humanity to build a home for a family in need in Cluj, Romania. It is the first time in her role as Ambassador for the charity that she has been involved in a building project.
Nadia helped build the home of the Denes family: Alexandru, a construction worker, his wife Loredana and their children, Denisa, 11, Angelo, 4 and Benjamin, 3. The family had been living in a basement, with no water or electricity.

Petrova said, "I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience of helping a family in need through the great work of Habitat for Humanity. The project has been extremely rewarding and I hope to join another build in the near future."

Jeanne Nicola˙, Sponsorship Manager, Whirlpool Europe said, "Whirlpool is extremely proud to be working in partnership with the Tour to support the fantastic work of Habitat for Humanity. It is tremendous that such a high profile player like Nadia has been able to take the time to get involved in this building project and experience the great work of the global charity first hand."

Whirlpool is the largest global partner of Habitat for Humanity. It has supported the charity since 1999 and, with its sponsorship of the Tour in Europe, has introduced women's professional tennis to the charity, which has become the Tour’s official European social cause. Whirlpool has supported the charity in many ways over a number of years, both through conventional and unconventional means. Support has ranged from product donations of a Whirlpool appliance to every Habitat home to Whirlpool employees actively helping in building projects.

This year, Whirlpool and the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour launched a series of exciting new initiatives such as ‘Aces for Homes’. For every ace slammed, 10 euros are donated to building Habitat homes in the tsunami-devastated area of Chennai, India. The Whirlpool ‘Love Food’ cookbook was also published earlier this year, featuring favorite recipes of top players, along with the Whirlpool Players Painting which is currently travelling to tournaments across Europe with proceeds from the highest bidder going to Habitat for Humanity.

The most wasted of all days is one without laughter....
Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there
Enjoy This Moment!!

She has to be the nicest girl on tour. Most players would just give some $$ or somthing, but not Nadia, she builds a house!
