Su-Wei is playing Pattaya next and probably a Challenger in the States before the Orange Bowl in December.

Her rank is high enough for the Aus Open qualies. She'll probably play the Asian Championships in Dec too. Winner will get the Aus Open maindraw wildcard.

Who is considered the "favorite" to win the Asian Championship? Will players like Janet Lee, Saori Obata play there too?

I think it's Su-Wei Hsieh or Widjaja.
After all, Su-wei Hsieh easily beat Janet Lee in straight sets at Taiwan's local championships.
Su-wei also beat Asagoe whose ranking is higher than Obata, and Widjaja beat Su-wei...

Congrats to :

Elena Dementieva for winning Pan Pacific Open! First Tier 1 title!
Make it into the top 5 girl !!!!

Best wishes to Taiwanese & Chinese girls, especially :
Su-wei Hsieh, Yung-jan Chan, Chin-wei Chan, Wen-hsin Hsu, and Chia-jung Chuang !

Marri :
No, tennis is not big at all in Taiwan.
We used to have a tourment in Taipei, Taiwan, but it cancelled many years ago.
Tulyagonova was here this summer to play Fed cup, but nobody cared.
Su-wei is merely the second Taiwanese tennis player who cracked into the top 200 ever. (the first one is Shi-ting Wang), and not so many people know about Su-wei.
As a Taiwanese tennis fan, I feel quite sorry about it.

Red face

it is quite a shame Yu-Lun because there is some good tennis talent coming out of a country that is not interested in tennis! Su-Wei and Chia-Jung are most likely going to be top 50 players one day. Su-Wei probably even top 10 - 20 .... they are going to end up playting for a nation thats not interested in the sport. Its amazing that Su-Wei is so young and is beating girls that are much more physicly developed then her! I am sure there will be more of an interest in the future
no need to push Su-Wei on - her talent is obvious and she will have success in the future

Yeah...that is sad. Don't forget about Chin-Wen and a top male junior Yeu Tzuoo Wang!

I saw some match of Su-Wei when she played in Wismilak International, Nusa Dua Bali. I think she have a big talent to breaks Top-100 next year.
About the Asian Championships, Angie won't play there because she will celebrate her 17th birthday in the same week.
Both Angie and Su-Wei, they are the Asian rising star.

It's a pity that tennis isn't popular in Taiwan.
There are quite a few talents coming over there.

Yen-Hsun Lu and Yeu-Tzuoo Wang (both Top 5 juniors at different times) in the men's tour and in the women's tour, Su-Wei Hsieh, Chia-Jung Chuang, Chin-Wei Chan, Hsiao-Han Chao, etc.

I wish them all the best!

Toto, I'm quite surprised to hear that Angie won't be playing the Asian Championships. I read on the Australian Tennis Magazine that she will, but I guess that was before she realised it was on the same week as her birthday.

I guess she'll definitely play qualies then. I don't think she'll play any more tourneys this year.

Some players do play on the same week as their birthday. It gives them good luck.
