AKGUL! The Gentle Giant's Wildly Enthusiastic Fan Zone

Unfortunately, Mighty Akgul seems to be a little overwhelmed out there on Court 3 right now. In 13 minutes she was down 0-3. But we know she can fight back; she's BIG AKGUL!

Re: Akgul's Wildly Enthusiastic Fan Zone!

She won a game!! Akgul's on fire!
But that game was a break. It's tougher for her to hold serve right now ...

She's starting off a lot better in this 2nd set.

Unfortunately, our Gentle Giant has not been able to take advantage of Nicole's numerous errors.

But at least the match is going over an hour. Akgul's getting some great experience out there; it's all good for her at this point in her career.

Not a bad showing at all from Akgul, against a top player. Congratulations on a very successful Roland Garros, Akgul!

Count me in as a supporter on a personal level (although quite unimpressed by her game at last sighting ).

Well, there's always hope she can impove, right? Anyway, maybe she already has improved, judging by her RG showing.

Next week, Akgul is in the main draw field in the Marseille 50K. Very puzzling choice, since she would probably have been in the main draw in the Barcelona Tier 4, and in fact she was originally entered there, but withdrew a while back. Why not play where she could earn more $ and points? Oh well, good luck to her in Marseille.

Akgul's ranking jumped from 210 to 141. So now she'll be able to get into the larger, better tournaments.

She withdrew from Marseille. Getting ready for the grass season instead, I hope?

Re: AKGUL! The Gentle Giant's Wildly Enthusiastic Fan Zone

Akgul is in the Wimbledon qualies.

Her big serve should win her quite a few matches. I expect her to equal, if not surpass, her Roland Garros showing.

Come on, Akgul!

Re: AKGUL! The Gentle Giant's Wildly Enthusiastic Fan Zone

Mighty Akgul won in straight sets today. Maybe she's a grass-court natural!

I still can't get used to seeing her in Slam draws, even Qs; I'm so used to seeing her in the challengers. I wonder if she's finally getting some coaching, and some support? I'm glad Iroda is also at Wimbledon; she can help Akgul get used to the place.

Good start, Akgul.

She has Sorana Cirstea, a tough Romanian youngster in the next round. Come on, Akgul!
