Re: AKGUL! The Gentle Giant's Wildly Enthusiastic Fan Zone

She's on the entry list for a 50K in France starting 12 November -- I guess she's not ready for her tennis season to end yet.

Even though she hasn't done great this fall, she's still done better than last year at this time. And that improvement is reflected in her ranking: she's up to #87. Not bad!

Akgul is the 3-seed in Deauville. Her first opponent is Margalita Chakhnashvili of Georgia. Good luck, Akgul!

Do you think so? I hope so. Her first match wasn't easy, but she did get through:

Akgul d. Margalita 62 36 63

Re: AKGUL! The Gentle Giant's Wildly Enthusiastic Fan Zone

I just noticed this tournament was on clay. That's actually a very good win, then.

It seems like clay wouldn't be her surface, but she had a great Roland Garros. Good win, Akgul. Keep it up.

Re: AKGUL! The Gentle Giant's Wildly Enthusiastic Fan Zone

Virginie Pichet d. Akgul Amanmuradova 6-4, 6-3.

Akgul. A little expected though, considering how less you've played recently. I think she is playing a 100K next week and then that's it for 2007. End the year with a bang baby!

[3] Amanmuradova/Yakimova d. [2] Bremond/Sfar 6-1, 2-6, 11-9.

Win the doubles! They play the #1 seeds Voracova/Zahlavova Strycova in the final.

Re: AKGUL! The Gentle Giant's Wildly Enthusiastic Fan Zone

Thanks for the news! I saw that Akgul had lost in the singles, and I never thought to check the doubles. It's nice to see that something is working for Akgul right now. I hope she & Anastasia are having fun out there. Good luck to them!

Re: AKGUL! The Gentle Giant's Wildly Enthusiastic Fan Zone

Akgul is playing the 100K next week in Poitiers, France. It's also on clay, so I'm not expecting much.

I don't know why she waiting until the very end of the season to start playing again. The ITF tournaments on hardcourts and indoors would have suited her game much better.

*chirp chirp*

Akgul won her first round match at the 75K Dubai tournament 7-6(8), 6-3.

Good luck in the second round!

A couple of old pictures from Tashkent:
