Re: AKGUL! The Gentle Giant's Wildly Enthusiastic Fan Zone

Totally agree with you, Phil!! She is far better than her ranking suggests ...I've always believed she is good enough to be Top 20 in singles and Top 10 in doubles

Her problems with results and inconsistancy this year have really been down to a few injuries she's had. She injured her elbow during Australia at the beginning of the year and that's only just fully healed. Hopefully we will see more good results from her in the next few tournies!!

Re: AKGUL! The Gentle Giant's Wildly Enthusiastic Fan Zone

I hope she can continue her good run of Astana the next few weeks because after Cincinatti she will drop out of the Top 100 if she won't get any points till then, although she defended most of them in Astana
Keep going Akgul

TT Comeback, Title Count:
Singles: Indian Harbour Beach '16
Doubles: Launceston '16 (w/Tim.), Indian Harbour Beach '16 (w./Ivanovic_fan), Saint Gaudens '16 (w/Tim.), Ikley '16 (w/Tim.), Nashville '16 (w/Tim.)
Rank: 100 // 50

Yeah she really saved herself with those points in Astana (I think if she hadn't got those points she would have dropped to around mid 200's?) At least it's given her a bit of breathing space, not having to rely on defending all at Cincy, less pressure on her for results and giving her some confidence in her tennis again

Next tourney is ITF $50k Bronx...she's the top seed there!!

Is this the same week as Cincy? If yes she could hold her Top 100 spot there

It's the week before Cincy Only problem could be that because she's No1 seed and quite a bit higher ranked than the other girls there is a good chance she could be there in the later stages, which means she wouldn't be able to play Cincy Q (if she gets in) unless she gets a MD WC.

Not sure which tourney she will play week before USO, it's a shame they moved and downgraded the Bronx tourney..last year it was $100k and same week as USO qualies which was perfect for everyone who was in NYC already or who couldn't get into New Haven.

USO
R1 d Paszek(37) 64 62
R2 d Parmentier(62) 63 75
R3 v Kuz(15) H2H
R4 v Woz(1) / King(103)

Akguls season was in free fall. I know she’s had injuries but she’s managed to find the parachute. Good Luck versus Kuz

Akgul v Parmentier:

She played such amazing tennis those 2 sets. I can see her match with Kuznetsova going to 3 tight sets like they did last year in Wimbledon.
Good Luck Akgul

Re: AKGUL! The Gentle Giant's Wildly Enthusiastic Fan Zone

Really nice to see her get to the third round. She looked pretty good at times in Dallas last week and got in the Main draw as a lucky looser. She was pushing Oudin around in the first round and looking like she was on cruse control (mind you everyone is pushing Oudin around these days)Until she suddenly looked hurt. Eventually pulling out of the match but it was either 4 or 5- for Akgul. First time I had seen her live and she is a class act and very reserved. What is nice is her game does not look like a clone of everyone's. She chips alot and had very nice angles on her serve. It was great to see her win yesterday, as she really needs the points.
