Re: AKGUL! The Gentle Giant's Wildly Enthusiastic Fan Zone

She lost in the final round of qualifying but made it into the MD when Mauresmo withdrew.

She plays Aravane Rezai tomorrow. Good luck Akgul.

Akgul is also playing doubles this week with Galina Voskoboeva, they play Safina and Vesnina in the first round.

Re: AKGUL! The Gentle Giant's Wildly Enthusiastic Fan Zone

She lost in doubles with Voskoboeva but plays singles against Ivanovic tomorrow second on Steffi Graf Stadium Court. Should be a great experience.

Akgul will rise to #59 with this win, dangerously close to the Top50, never would have thought this would happen when I really started following her exactly a year ago next week.

Really important right now: Olympic cutoff! This is good news.

Fantastic win for Akgul over Rezai as a lucky loser too! She is doing so well and I am so proud of her! Go Akgul!

Re: AKGUL! The Gentle Giant's Wildly Enthusiastic Fan Zone

She lost to Ivanovic 6-7(0) 2-6 but what an effort!

I don't think we have seen the best of Akgul yet. Now that she has some experience on the WTATour I expect her game to really click on grass and during the hardcourt season.

Wow -- taking AI to a tiebreak is . I wonder if Akgul really believed she could win the match? Maybe her self-belief still hasn't caught up with her vastly improved game. It will, though! Who knows how far she can go.

The King's Collection (Indian Wells 2010)

Someone has uploaded Akgul's match against Ivanovic, you can find all three parts in the first post of that thread.

Keep going!

Re: AKGUL! The Gentle Giant's Wildly Enthusiastic Fan Zone

Rome Q2R: [9] Akgul Amanmuradova d. [18] Olga Savchuk 6-2 7-6(4)

She fought back from 3-5 down in the second set and saved three set points. Nicely done Akgul.

Good luck in the MD!

Re: AKGUL! The Gentle Giant's Wildly Enthusiastic Fan Zone

Yeah its so great for Akgul

She will become a´new High-Rank after Rom i think its so wonderful...

She isnt beauty but she is a nice girl with some good tennis....

Soon she can have a coach i think...then she will be better in tennis because i think she can then better practise her Footwork....

Re: AKGUL! The Gentle Giant's Wildly Enthusiastic Fan Zone

Congrats to Akgul!

To the above poster - she does have a coach named Steeve Elhaim, a French guy and very sweet, who is really helping her including her mental game. Also she is very cute when you see/meet her.
