Re: Steffi Graf Admiration Thread Vol 2

And the people asking for a refund were probably the same ones who asked her to give a game to Marsikova.

HAMBURG, Friday: An out of form Wimbledon champion Steffi Graf endured the rare insult of hearing a chanting crowd demand their money back at the $A247,220 Hamburg women's tennis tournament yesterday.

Graf, winner of the Australian, French and Wimbledon titles this year, eventually subdued Yugoslav Sabrina Goles, ranked 46 in the world, 6-4 6-2 but only after she became furious with herself at the number of her unforced errors.

The West German's usually lethal forehand missed the intended target so often that some of the 3,000 spectators began taunting her by shouting for a refund.

Graf trailed 3-0 in the first set before managing to reverse the trend and win the set in 43 minutes.

In two third round upsets, West German Silke Meier beat third-seeded compatriot Sylvia Hanika 6-2 3-6 6-3, while 14th-seeded Czech Radka Zrubakova defeated Spanish teenager Arantxa Sanchez, the No 5 five seed, 6-2 6-3.

HILVERSUM, Friday: Australian Mark Woodforde beat third seed Claudio Mezzadri, of Switzerland, 7-5 6-2 in a quarter-final of the $A185,415 Nabisco Grand Prix tennis tournament.

It was Woodforde's third consecutive victory. Earlier, the fifth seed defeated Marko Ostoja, of Yugoslavia, and Swede Jan Gunnarson.

Top-seeded Guillermo Perez-Roldan, of Argentina, won his second-round match against West German Paul Vojtisek 6-3 6-4.

In another second-round match second seed Emilio Sanchez, of Spain, beat Dutchman Paul Dogger 6-3 6-1.
