ALTHOUGH she became an Australian citizen on Friday, Hana Mandlikova will still play for the Czechoslovak tennis team at the Summer Games in Seoul, South Korea, her father said yesterday. But Mandlikova, ranked fifth in the world, told journalists in Brisbane, Australia, Friday that she ''will not play for Czechoslovakia again.''
Her father, Vilem Mandlik, told The Associated Press in a telephone interview that his daughter, who was born in Czechoslovakia, had signed an agreement with the head of Czechoslovak sports, Antonin Himl, to play for Czechoslovakia in the Summer Games.
''She is sure to play the Olympics for Czechoslovakia . . . what will come afterward is another matter,'' Mandlik said. Mandlikova married Jan Sedlak, who was born in Czechoslovakia and later became an Australian citzen, during the 1986 Federation Cup tournament in Prague. Although she is now an Australian citizen, according to Federation Cup rules, which will be used for the Olympics, a three-year delay is necessary between representation for different nations. Australian officials could appeal in her behalf.
Guess that means she became a Australian Citizen 1st January 1988 when she was ranked 5 in the world.
