Don't you think this has something to do with the fact that she is 16 - only 5 top 100 players have played as few events in the past year or less and some, like Ka. Pliskova, have played more than twice as many (32 compared to 15) so it's natural that their good results are more spread across the season

Anyway, still bummed about what happened today, for some reason I really thought this will be the place where Donna would lift her first WTA winner's trophy. But as many of you pointed out well, very few of us ever thought this would happen at the start of the week, so kudos to Donna for a wonderful result. Another encouraging fact is that she gave a really good resistance and ended the match with a tight scoreline, eventhough former #5 and a grasscourt specialist was on the other side.

What was less pretty to witness today was in my opinion Donna's serving, which I find hard to believe was at 52% by the end of the match - seemed even worse to me. Yes, I agree she was also too passive and let her opponent take the full charge of the match, and there's not much good to expect in such circumstances, especially if you're facing a seasoned veteran.

Donna once again showed a great ability to hold her mental focus in tough conditions and an amazing fighting spirit. For that, I think she deserved more, at least maybe a third set. Oh well, she'll have to find a way to deal with such tough losses as they'll surely be many more of them in the years to come.

Somebody asked how do we think her game compares to the same time last year - I have to say it's much better, probably even a complete layman would see the difference (after all, I'm not exactly an expert...). Her backhand is considerably better now and it can come very useful to her, while there's also a noticable difference in her movement. What little of her net skills we saw this week also seem much better than anything we witnessed last summer.

So overall, it's a bitter-sweet feeling for me and it'll probably take some time until it sinks to us what she's done this week.

Well done Donna!
