I've been feeling like starting a thread for the 2nd Moldavian young prospect recently turned Spanish (after Aliona Bolsova)
Cristina is 17 (born January 1, 1998), and unlike Aliona she's an ethnically Romanian Moldavian.
She's currently ranked #91 in juniors and #767 at the WTA (both rankings are CHRs).
She's won 1 tournament so far this year: G2 ITF Junior Ciutat De Vinaros on clay in March (she beat top seed Eva Guerrero Alvarez 0-6 6-4 7-6(6) in the final
She also made 1 final, at 10K Palmanova on clay as well in February. She went through the qualies, and then in MD she beat top seed Lucia Cervera-Vazquez 6-4 3-3 ret. in R1, Anastasia Vdovenco 6-0 7-6(0) in R2, (8)Yvonne Cavalle-Reimers 3-6 7-5 6-4 in QF, and (6)Alice Savoretti 2-6 6-1 6-0 in SF, before falling to 2nd seed Amanda Carreras in the final, 5-7 0-6.
She also has 1 more SF (at G1 Trofeo Juan Carlos Ferrero in April), and 4 more QFs (at 10K Palmanova the week after she made the final, at G2 Torneo ITF Junior Benicarlo, at 10K Madrid in June, and at 15K Barcelona 2 weeks ago) appearances.
At 15K Barcelona, she went through the qualies, beat (7)Claudia Giovine 6-2 5-7 6-3 in R1, and Aliona Bolsova-Zadoinov 7-5 6-1 in R2
but then she lost to (4)Polina Vinogradova 2 & 2 in QF.
She played the U18 European Junior Championships in Switzerland this summer. She had a bye in R1, beat (9)Vera Lapko (who made the SFs of Wimbledon and QFs of the USO this year) 6-1 2-6 6-1 in R2, and Alona Pushkarevsky 6-7(1) 6-0 6-1 in R3, before being stopped by the eventual winner Anna Bondar in R4, 7-5 6-7(2) 3-6.
I think she has a really nice potential, she seems to be a promising clay-courtier especially. Good luck to her in her career!
