Milan: Juanqui into the 2nd round

Wow, this was quite an impressive victory! Boutter was leading 6-3 6-6 and 5-4 in the tie break. He had to serve twice, so it was almost like match points, but... he made 2 consecutive double faults! Then Juanqui went onto win 3-6 7-6 6-4

Great match for JC, especially since this is an indoor-carpet event, the best surface for Booutter (he made about 25 aces!)

MILAN INDOOR January 29, 2002

Ferrero Wins 2002 Debut
Rusedski advances to the Milan Indoor quarterfinals.

On Wednesday top seed and wild card Juan Carlos Ferrero got off to a shaky start against Julien Boutter of France. The 22-year-old Spaniard had to work hard to win his first match of the 2002 season, but he managed to defeat the Frenchman 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-4, despite Boutter's 5-2 lead in the second set tie-break

"This is my first match of the year, and I knew that it was going to be very difficult. He reached the final here last year, and he likes these courts. It was hard to come back after being a break down in the second set. And in the tiebreak I needed a lot of luck to come back from 5-2 down," said Ferrero, who proved that he has recovered from his knee injury. The Spaniard, who plays in Milan for the first time, meets Italian Davide Sanguinetti on Thursday.

"My goals are to make it to the Masters again, Roland Garros, and all the events. I'm No. 3 right now, so not too far from No. 1, and that is a goal for the year too," Ferrero said in the post-match press conference.

"I had the match in my hands twice, and you can't let it go against a player like him. When I'm ahead I try to do too much. I still played well today, though," said Boutter, who reached the Milan final last year
