Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

I uploaded Garbi's post-match interview with Pam after the match. Will it have it for you tommorrow. It's a little unsteady as I positioned the camera in my hand and it's a little low on the volume, but that's because it's late here on the East Coast.

Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

Congrats on a great win, Garbiñe!

I am so impressed by the way Garbiñe closed it out at 5-3* in the third. This is what champions are made of. Very well done!

Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

Here's Garbi's post-match interview
http://www.ausopen.com/en_AU/news/in...033629020.html

Q. Did you expect such a tough battle today?
GARBINE MUGURUZA: I expect it. I know Caroline is a great player and great fighter. I was really prepared for big fight like today.

Q. What was the key to having success today?
GARBINE MUGURUZA: The key was more to be strong mentally, especially in the third set, because we both were playing so good. To be strong, like to keep fighting was the difference.

Q. Was that your first time on Rod Laver Arena? Did it feel different at all?
GARBINE MUGURUZA: It's not the first time. Last year I played also. But it's difficult in the beginning because it's a very big court and you have to be like concentrated, because it's like really big on the sides and there's a lot of people. So in the beginning it's hard, but then you don't realize you're playing the center court. You just keep on playing the match.

Q. Have you played Radwanska before?
GARBINE MUGURUZA: Yeah, I played her like two years ago and I lost, so it's a difficult match.

Q. You've only played her once?
GARBINE MUGURUZA: Yeah, only once.

Q. How do you prepare for a match like that?
GARBINE MUGURUZA: Yeah, well, today I don't want to think about Radwanska. But, yeah, tomorrow we will start to prepare the match, to focus on the tactic, and to see what's the key to win.

Q. How is the win today given the occasion, how does it rank?
GARBINE MUGURUZA: It's a great win. It's a great win. I think is the first time no, not the first time I win a top 10 player. But is amazing to win center court a top 10 player like Caro. So I'm really happy.

Q. Is it a big relief that today we have 20 degrees, not 40?
GARBINE MUGURUZA: Yeah, today was much better. The difference is important 'cause before was so hot. Now was like perfect to play. So it's so good.

Me too!
But one question Banette.
Why do u prefer Garbi to play for Venezuela and not Spain?

Great win!! 11 in a row and counting...
This was the match she had to win if she wants to be Top20. Now it will be more difficult with Aga, she will have to be very strong mentally. For me Radwanska is the favorite but if Garbi is consistent and don't losses her head she can have a chance

Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

Garbiñe

No shame to lose today! The beginning of the first set was decisive and Agnieszka played it smart after that. I think that you could already see during the match against Wozniacki that Garbiñe's form started to decline a bit and today it seemed to me as if she was mentally and physically tired.

Nonetheless the last weeks have been a huge success for her and she definitely won a fan.

That week in Hobart was just unbelievably good.

Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

Scores

Rd64 d. Anna Schmiedlova 63 63
Rd32 d. (10) Caroline Wozniacki 46 75 63
Rd16 lost to (4) Aga Radwanska 16 36

This has been an amazing month for her and great tournament, with dispatching a Top 10 player! Wish she had more of a fight against Aga, but Aga is deceptively tricky.

Garbine will be #35 after this tournament, which is a new career high for her!
