Re: Blast Encyclopedia of Female Tennis Players

Guthrie won the Allegheny County Championship in 1914 (and 1916, when she won Western Pennsylvania Championships too), so I think that 1940 Census wrong to fix her DOB in circa 1901.
I agree. I will do some more research om her DOB.

Here is an article that mentions some Mrs FB Snowdon (Martha Guthrie, the tennis player?)
No-this is not Martha Guthrie-who died in a fire (see the other article in the bio).

and her daughter Miss Martha Guthrie Snowdon (M.G. Snowdon). Was the former still alive in 1954 or "Mrs Felix Brunot Snowdon" from the text below is the 2nd wife of her ex-husband ? So is she just a step-mother for Martha Guthrie's daughter ? By the way: according to this article her 2nd husband's name was Edward (not Edwin) Hingst...
Exactly-a stepmother.

The article you have linked too specifies the late Mr Snowden AND the late Mrs Hingst (this is Martha).

It's Edwin for certes-he and Martha are listed in the 1940 census and Ancestry has other records linking his name. Maybe Edward was a nickname?

I'll check newspaper archives later to see if I can get more on her.
