Sporza?

I've heard that there will be a VRT sports channel, called Sporza, who will broadcast all the big sports events, including tennis.

Does this mean we won't get anymore sports on Canvas? That would be really worrying because Sporza will only be available on cable in Flanders and Brussels... No hertzian broadcasting!

Does anyone know more about this?

If I read correctly there will be no more sports on Canvas, because it there is going to be so much sports this summer and it would overlap the programs on Ketnet. So they decided to move all the sports to a new channel: Sporza.

I know I've been a liar
And I know I've been a fool
I hope we didn't break it
But I'm glad we broke the rules
My cave is deep now
Yet your light is shining through
I cover my eyes
Still all I see is you

So, the Walloons won't be able to see a single bit of sports on VRT... Great!

Sporza is a temporarely sportschannel for this summer, so the kids can have their ketnet. So no sport on ketnet/canvas at all this summer.

I didn't know sporza will not be available for the Walloons But you can watch ketnet (Samson, Bob the builder, ...) now all summer, turt

I hope they will show Samson with Justine then

Sporza won't be available for Flemish people without cable either, so that's stupid anyway...

Well, I'm not surprised at all, why would they share the sports rights they paid with Walloons? I'm not going to talk about politics in this thread, but given the current tendancy, it was to be expected... (what about the VRT's "must-carry" status? )

I'm sure they didn't do it for political reasons, it just was the easiest way. First they asked the commercial channels to cooperate, but they didn't want to, so VRT did it on his own.

I'm sure RTBF will broadcast lots of tennis, no?

Well, then why don't they broadcast this channel on walloon cable? VRT, as a public TV company, has a "must carry" status for its channels, that means everyone in Belgium should be able to watch their programs if they have a TV...

Of course, RTBF will show tennis, but for instance today they didn't show Sharapova-Zvonareva, which was broadcasted on Canvas. Two channels is always better than one, because the coverage is not exactly the same!

Also, I'm not sure whether RTBF has the Olympics rights, but VRT does. So, that means Walloon viewers won't be able to see the Olympics

I don't know if that 'must carry' also goes up for that third channel... I think it will be funded by advertising (not sure), so if this is the case it is seen as a commercial channel.

You can watch the BBC, NOS or French Television ( France 2 and France 3) if you want to watch the Olympic Games.

You don't have to be mad at Sporza hitself but well sometimes to our silly cable industries.

Now I think about it... Why can't they cooperate with the Netherlands to make 1 dutch-speaking permanent sports-channel?
