Advice on camping overnight for tickets?

Has anyone out there done this (i.e., queue on Church Road along with the other crazies and sleep overnight there in a bid to get next day's tickets)?

If so, let me know what some 'essentials' are...small tent, sleeping bag, inflatable mattress, etc.? I know there are no shower facilities, but there are portable toilets set up for those waiting overnight.

Anything else to help make it somewhat comfortable?

Many thanks!

you should start queuing around 7 pm the day before if you would like to have Centre Court tickets the next day.

your stuff what you need overnight you can take in and leave it at an "office" for less money

be prepared for the rain (and also your tend) otherwise when you put your stuff together every day (must be around 6 am) it's not that easy with a wet tend

Well when I went, I just took my sleeping bag (checking the weather before I left to make sure it was gonna be dry) a bottle of vodka some lemonade, a radio for entertainment, oh and the number of the local pizzahut!! (they will deliver to you in the queue!!

Had so much fun that night highly recommended!!

Excellent advice, Potty! You've convinced me a tent might not be necessary (weather permitting...). I only saw a few tents last year when leaving the grounds one evening, and I just figured everyone would pitch their tents later that night. Glad to know you can muddle through the night without a tent!

Didn't it get a little chilly, though, at around 3 a.m. or so?

Thanks again for advice

The first year I went I was tentless, so it isn't necessary. But then I have also been grateful to be under cover when the rain came at one time. If the weather looks like holding up, you'll be fine.

As for what you need, you've pretty much got it sorted with your list. One thing I'd add is a stool or some collapseable seat-thing. There's a lot of waiting in line so unless you don't mind standing or sitting on the ground and risking piles, then take something to sit on. It isn't so important, but it's something I'm glad I have.

I went to the museum in March of this year and there were no toilets, so I think they are a temporary measure put up for the fortnight of the Championships. As far as I am aware though, there are toilets which make do as washing facilities.

Something to pass the time might be good. And as mentioned earlier, there are left luggage places where you can store your stuff during the day.

Well I was drunk so did not fel the cold by 3am , plus it ain't that cold at this time of year and if u have a sleeping bag should be fine, would say most important thing if u r not wanting to take a tent is checking the weather forcast. There are left luggage counters to leave your stuff, just remember they are very busy and u can spend an hour when u first get into the grounds waiting to get ride of your bag, so my advice would be take only what is necessary and carry it with u. If u only have a sleeping bag and small rucksack I would not bother leaving itin left luggage.

7pm the day before ???
thats madness, you need to be in Q for around 4am
that would get you in for main court tickets for sure.

They have Portable Toilets there in the Q
there's the old man and his food wagon, he's up there all night for "refreshments" if you can call them that.
Potty basically covered it

Oh yes, I remember it. The smell coming from it isn't very refreshing, especially at 6 AM.

I am lucky enough to have tickets but I got a leaflet with them saying the left luggage is no longer inside the ground but they will be facilities for luggage outside the grounds for security reason.

they have a tent by Gate 1 for left luggage, its been there in other years as well.

as soon as you get your wristband, then you should go to the tent, although some go before as they walk up towards the gate.

They set you moving towards the gate at 7am, and you get your wrsitbands if you're lucky by about 8-15 ish, they open the gates at 9-30 but you can't go to courts until 10-30.

you got to get yourself in-line before 10-30 though as there's always a MAD STAMPEDE towards Court 3, 13 and one the other way for Court 18.
its always so funny seeing them run

As far as I'm aware left luggage in the grounds have been scrapped this year for security reasons. There is somewhere near the grounds where you can leave your stuff this year but you have to go out of the grounds to do it which is a pain in the ass. I read it on a website somewhere - I'll try and find the link with that up to date info.

From the Wimby Website

Searches
All bags will be searched on entry to the grounds, at the entrances to show courts and before acceptance at left luggage facilities. The All England Lawn Tennis Club reserves the right to perform further searches of the person as a condition of entry to the grounds.

Left Luggage
There are no left luggage facilities inside the grounds. Left luggage facilities are provided at a number of locations OUTSIDE the grounds. Camping equipment, oversize bags, picnic hampers or bags not required whilst visiting The Championships must be left in one of the facilities outside the grounds.

All bags will be searched before acceptance into the left luggage facilities. Recovery of items from left luggage facilities will require a "pass out"/ hand stamp and production of a valid ticket for re-entry to the grounds.

There will be five facilities outside the grounds. The cost is £1 per item and facilities are to be manned by Securicor from 7am until an hour after close of play. Unclaimed luggage will be removed. Picnic bags can be taken into the ground but have to be carried. Plastic bags are to be available at the left luggage facilities. All left luggage will be searched on arrival.
