In a way, you're both right, if you look (and count) more carefully

I'm just not so sure as vladek that this will be enough...

Yup, quali draw is out with Yashina (WTA 453) as the top seed, so she obviously made it - comfortably in fact. My bad.

Re: Ana Konjuh

Under ideal circumstances Ana could win this, but under current...I'm not as confident. Kichenok is playing pretty well lately and throughout the year as well (she is currently on her best ever ranking of 107). Her best wins of 2013 came against Timea Babos (4 & 5 on grass) and Mirjana Lucic-Baroni (5 & 3 on clay). Fun fact: she lost to Friedsam three times this year, winning just one set against her in all those matches. That sounds promising from our perspective, but I wouldn't give that bit of info too much importance right now. Yes, she is capable of surprising losses, like the one to #794 in the Turkish challenger which Donna won, but overall her form this year is solid - she's got a 100k title to her name. Clay seems to be her worst surface, she looks very good on hardcourt, while she also seems to be not as comfortable indoors, just like Ana. Let's see if our girl can do some damage here.

Good luck Anci

Re: Ana Konjuh

I really like Kichenok twins so this is a bit of a disappointing draw for me. I was hoping for Ana, Nadiya, and Lyuda to all do well here and they are all stuck in the same quarter. Oh well- I'll be happy and sad no matter the result. Gotta pull for Ana in this match though.

Re: Ana Konjuh

If Ana manages a win here, she'll win against the highest ranked opponent this year - outside of Fed Cup, of course. So far it was the one against Van Uytvanck (#129 at the time) in Limoges.

P. S. Anyone knows if there'll be some live streaming from this event? If there were, I'm pretty sure this R1 match would get coverage.

Re: Ana Konjuh

Well, well, Ana also in the doubles draw in Dubai (not the kindest of draws unfortunately):

(1)Bratchikova/Klemenschits (RUS/AUT) v BYE
Diatchenko/Savchuk (RUS/UKR) v Konjuh/Tomova (CRO/BUL)

Re: Ana Konjuh

This is a really tough draw for Ana, Nadiya Kichenok is having a great season: won two 25ks and a 100k + two 50k finals, and recently made her CH ranking. I'm sure Ana will give her best as usual, but I'm not expecting much

Technically, 125k is equivalent to an ATP Challenger event, so it's not actually tour-level.

No matter what happens, Ana will have a wild-card into Australian Open qualifying. I'm happy about that.

Re: Ana Konjuh

Against Nads will be tough but Ana can theoretically win...

Estonian Mynx Nettu-GOAT + Lerka + Sonya + Katu + Kaia + Miley + Lissi + Carol

Guardian of the Norr, Slavic and Golden Flower Power GOATs

Well, WTA counts it as WTA title so... It is also called WTA 125k Series... Anyway, that result is pretty impressive for opponent Ana beat just few weeks ago.
