We all know that Ana is the most deserving player to be number 1 right now. The only players that might argue with that are Townsend, who still is inconsistent and not good enough on clay, and Abanda, who's been through so many injuries. Belinda is a top junior, but she's no match for Ana.
However, there are 2 positives involved: motivation to become #1 again and less pressure in Wimby
PS: Belinda is one of my faves though and I'm 'wearing' an avatar with her for a while
Don't have time for translating the whole article, sorry
But they say Ana's visited a specialist in Strasbourg after RG, who confirmed that the problem is a bone growth on her patella joint on her elbow, which causes pain in her muscle when she streches her hand. This injury is not uncommon amongst athletes and also one French tennis player has had it and he's overcome it. They are planing to get a second opinion and after that she will most likely undergo a surgery which would "remove" this growth. Her father says that ideally this surgery would happen after the US open and she would be able to train moderately 6 weeks later and play as soon as 3 months after the procedure. SHe would then play AO.
I assume that there is no risk of doing further damage by playing through it (she already has been doing so for quite some time). Let's hope all goes well whenever the procedure is done and she is 100% healthy for her first year on tour in 2014.
